Well we got the HD DVR installed and OMG even on my CRT it's already a step up! Is that possible? Can't wait for the new TV...Discovery HD will play 24/7!! Wooooo! Okay, that's probably an exaggeration, but but but ooooh, the pretty!

We'll go with biggest mistake ever. Not life altering or bad in the grand scheme of things. Just a really bad decision.

I lived in NY for many years and the only way we could even make mexican food is when my dad would take a business trip to LA and load his suitcase full of tortillas, chilis, etc. So, I understand that you can't always get what you want and I'm cool with that.

My complaint rather is that I'm constantly taunted with signs that say "NY PIZZA!", when they are nothing of the sort. I can't begin to tell you how many establishments I've dined at simply because they boast that they make "authentic NY pizza". I can't begin to tell you how many crap pizzas I've purchased, in the hopes that it might be somewhat close. And in that regard, I've finally given up and become resigned to the fact that, no, I'm not going to get what I consider a good pizza here, any more than someone on Long Island is going to get a Chile Relleno of the same quality I expect here.

And while I have never had the pleasure of having an authentic Chicago Hot Dog, I do also enjoy their pizza. I just consider it an entirely different beast altogether and it isn't the first thing that comes to mind when I think "pizza". Likewise, I happen to like California Pizza Kitchen, especially their Thai Chicken Pizza. I just don't consider it "pizza" in the strictest sense.

Surprisingly, I have been able to get my NY hot dog fix here. Between Nathan's and Boar's Head hot dogs, that area is covered.

Anyone here go to a Mexican restaurant in NYC? If you have, I rest any and all cases. I don't worry about needing something specific anywhere. For the most part, if you want it so bad, you can find the seasonings to make it yourself, or seek out specialty venues. Hell, I've ordered cheesecake from NYC and it was GREAT. Expensive, but great.

My opinion: enjoy what your area is known for, and pity the people in the Midwest. Unless you're in a major metropolitan area, and even if you are - you're screwed for both coastal cuisines.
