Pffft... no hill for a climber. Are you, or are you not, in possession of camping equipment?

(I say this, in spite of having no intention of participating myself. Simply because I enjoy applying the peer pressure, LOL)

I think I'll fire up my extra 1250 watt computer power supplies to pitch in.

I just spent the last 3 hours trying to get the wife's laptop running again. Somehow she managed to corrupt her user account. It's Windows Vista and it would come up with this error message when she tried to log onto the computer:

"The User Profile Service service failed the logon. User Profile cannot be loaded"

The problem is, that was the ONLY profile set up, so you couldn't do anything at all on it. And it was the Administrator! I didn't know that with Vista you should always set up more than one profile, and not use admin for daily working. I don't use Vista anywhere, and don't use that laptop. Cripes!

Luckily I was able to get in on safe mode and do a system restore, back to two days ago. I then went in and made two more profile accounts.

Does everyone know about having more than one account in Vista, and I've living under a rock?

And yes, it was during Earth Hour and I had the lights on.

That's how I feel about it.

If it were an hour each week, I'd be on board. Coming from a background of not using power for a full day each week, it wouldn't be that hard to do.

Maybe Obama could help with the meme that he's a closet Muslim but initiating a government program encouraging conversion to orthodox Judaism as an environmental program.

Shortly after we moved to the Bay Area there was a story on the news that so convinced me of the truth of the stereotype of "Berkeley Liberal Idiocy" that it still lingers 12 years later.

It was a hunger strike some group was doing. But the twist was that it was a "relay" (my word, probably not the one they used) hunger strike. They were broken into teams of four and each person on the team would be on hunger strike for 6 hours and then pass the strike to the next person. By their definition, I'm on a hunger strike every time I go to sleep which is why as I get into bed each night I loudly proclaim "Down with <significant societal form of oppression>" in hopes that by shedding light on the issue with my sacrifice I will slowly reform society. So far it isn't working much, the cat still wears fur, flagrantly flouting my PETA-activism.

Now, I don't doubt the sincerity of those who participate in Earth Hour, any more than I doubted the sincerity of those hunger strikers. And Earth Hour isn't as silly as that hunger strike since at least some small amount of the unused power is actually saved rather than just shifted slightly. But I can't help putting them in roughly the same bucket.

If they had Earth Hour during hours it was light outside I'd be more inclined to participate.

Instead the reusable coffee mug, reusable 'work cutlery' and reusable water cup I use resulting in about 400 less things I am throwing away each month at work will have to make up for it.

So the last dream I had before waking this morning, was me (on a motorcycle) following Lashbear (in a Ford truck) on a 2 lane freeway heading to Long Beach. Then I lost him as we ended up on some weird freeway in the middle of construction. This must have been recycled from my looking at those roads Disneyphile posted about. Even if it was just a dream, great to see you Lashbear. I woke up before we made it to Long Beach.

Boris has been stable for a long time, but it looks like he's decompensated a bit. We're hoping he had a kidney infection (even though it didn't show up in the urine) and that he'll improve. He's lost weight, which is alarming. He's not underweight yet, but he's close. He's been a little more active since he's been on the antibiotics, so maybe it is an infection making him worse and he'll get better. It's not like he's on death's door, but I'm reminded that he's a sick kitty, has been for a long time, and won't last forever. He's been such a good friend and I can't stand thinking about life without him.
