This is our cat. I was freaked that she did this but I came to find out it isn't anything new. She climbs up the metal door all of the time and now walks across the door jamb/frame to get on to the door.

Our has no way to get up there on her own but if I put her up there she is happy.

Why do they do this???? I was so worried for her. I made sure and not shake the door, I got a chair and got her down.

Then, {which I can imagine} I was told she holds on to the top with her back claws and drops about half way down and jumps off. So, not so high.

I'm having a difficult time getting enthused about our scheduled roadtrip to various holes in the ground in national parks of the southwest. Everyone's excited about it except me. My brother is so excited he can barely contain himself. I'm not sure why stomping around in the desert is such a thrill, but I'm going because a) my mom guilted me into it and b) then I can say I've seen it, and it's definitely a part of the country I've not yet seen. I just wish I was more excited about it.

Cats can jump a long way down if they want to.

Ours regularly jumps down 8 feet from the top of our entertainment center to the floor.

Aw, Prudence, where are you going??? And when? {sorry if I've missed a post about it}.

Agh! I would freak if our little Kitty jumped from so far. Our wall unit is only about 5 feet high. But, yes, I guess cats can jump pretty far.


I guess, also, I should be happy our cat does not get on top of our wall unit. She ventures into boxes, sleeps on laundry, but, does not climb up on the shelves. Good because I have a lot of breakable crap.

I actually LOVE the Southwest, National Parks - the whole she-bang! So much history that's just evident in the trees, the soil, the rocks.

In fact, I'm hoping that perhaps this fall I'll be able to go Black Opal digging in Nevada. There are also some great fossil sites in Utah that I've been on the lookout for.

I guess I just get off on that kind of thing (yes, I am regularly watching Travel, History, Natl Geographic Channels and then some )For me, going to the national parks and doing grimy, dirty, desert-y things brings me back to what I have had a secondary (or tertiary, or beyond... I've picked up so many interests through the years) passion for - archeology and anthropology. Though it may not be what I'm doing at the moment I'm standing there looking around, I get to have momentary flights of fancy where I'm doing some important research and am about to find something big...

We're all allowed to dream, right?

In an odd twist, though - I can go just about anywhere and have a flight of fancy. Though I'm tend to be somewhat realistic with my real life situation - it's nice to put myself somewhere, even if just in my head, for just a few moments. Maybe I'm walking down Madison Avenue, imagining myself an advertising exec (though maligned, I've much liked the idea). In Vegas I'm a showgirl for a moment. In Hawaii, I'm ready to live the aloha lifestyle. That's just me, though...

It's how I keep from going crazy.
