From our campground, there's a wonderful hike to the Muir Grove of giant Sequoias ... far more secluded and intitmate than the more touristy groves near parking lots and vending machines. Also accessible from our campsite is a shorter hike to Little Baldy, an exposed granite dome with a panaramic view of the Sierras.

So, allowing for any further, independent discoveries - the for-sure hikes directly from camp are to the Muir Grove, and to Little Baldy. A short drive takes you to the trailhead for Tokopah Falls and, if anyone desires, the far more touristy Grant Grove of sequoias. Longer-driving excursions will be headed for Kings Canyon and one of the caverns (if there are really two of them).



Please contribute any further suggestions, if you have 'em.
And, depending on how my ascent from the depths of Grand Canyon goes, I may attempt to scale Alta Peak in Sequoia.

I expect a good deal of campfire lounging and early morning lounging. And that's about all the lounging I personally plan to do.


Frankly, if I wanted lounging ... camping is the absolute last vacation option I would choose. It's work, work and more work ... almost constantly. In between, there's the adventuring that is the raison d'etre of my travel to the great outdoors.

Finally, after the last bit of work is done for the day, I can have a cocktail and sit around the campfire ... where, after all that work and adventuring, I'm likely at my age to fall asleep within the hour.


Then there's the last bit of work in throwing away all trash, bearproofing all foods, and battening down camp for the night. Ah, and a few hours shut-eye before the dawn.



I salute all ye loungers ... but I'm not one of you.

What I love about a camp population of 20+ is that all the options can indeed be experienced. We will have an outdoor swank society!

Okay, I officially can't go swank camping. My job will be ramping up right around that time. We'll be gearing up to start editing that week.
