I double-checked and the timer on the rocket was 31 minutes ahead of Daniel's watch.
There are a couple theories that I have read about that can explain this. 1. Time on the island is slower than time in the outside. This explains why Richard Alpert hasn't aged. Why "ghost Walt" is taller (he's off the island). Maybe even why Aaron is growing so fast (children age at the standard rate while adults don't). But it doesn't explain how they are able to communicate with the outside in real time. The voices from the ship would be frequency shifted up. Also, GPS uses time to triangulate positions. Highly accurate time pieces are required for better precision. If time on the island were slower then the GPS phone and transponders would not accurately show their locations. And if they were off by as much as 31 minutes it would probably not even locate them on earth. 2. There's a curve in time surrounding the island that varies by trajectory. This can explain things much better. If some trajectories off the island don't have a time dilation then communications are still possible given that radio waves travel in all directions. But then there would still be echoes making communications difficult. And, as was pointed out above, why Daniel made sure to tell the pilot to follow the exact course they came in on. |

Anyone else remember the old time music Sayid and Hurley picked up either last season or the season before?

And good points, Bill! If they created something to time shift, perhaps they figured out a way to comunicate through it. This sure keeps ones mind going, doesn't it? ![]()

OK....that opens a can of worms, eh?
I guess Aaron is one of the Oceanic 6? Perhaps he doesn't count. Regardless, this makes me wonder.....did Claire voluntarily give up Aaron? Doubt that. It Claire dead? Perhaps. Did Kate kidnap Aaron? Maybe, but if so, why? Or, perhaps, the child is hers (though he's awefully big) and she named him after Aaron? The only reason I suggest that is because Jack obviously has issues with the boy, but I don't really think that's the case. Is this the person Kate referred to in the season finally when she said "He'll be wondering where I am."? Perhaps something happened to Claire that Jack couldn't prevent so he doesn't want to see Aaron. |

![]() CLAIRE!! Noooooo!!! I love that this show still manages to shock and horrify me ![]() Is the time rift large enough that the helicopter could disappear for a day? Did they land elsewhere? They can't be dead, Sayiid lives, and of course the helicopter has to rescue 6 of them. Locke is losing it, big time. I didn't listen to Jack's courtroom story too closely after the first part, need to go back for that.

I didn't catch on the first run-through whether Jack said "8 survived" or "80". 80 seems higher than the total ever was, even including the tailies. So it must have been 8. Big ol' lie there, never mind the lie of landing in the water (of course, there's the plane that IS at the bottom of the ocean).

As soon as the lawyer mentioned that he wanted to use Kate's "son" as a character witness I knew that it was Aaron. That made the final payoff a little more delicious.
Jack's statement was that the plane crashed in the water with 8 survivors and Kate was the hero, pulling people out of the water and giving first aid. My theory is that in this fabricated story Claire was one of the 8, but she died during childbirth and Kate adopted Aaron. I wonder who the other dead survivor is though. And I don't think Aaron is counted as one of the Oceanic 6. |

Ben was born in a wooded area 32 miles outside of Portland. I'm thinking the Gorge - near Multnomah Falls.
A few thoughts... The celebrity status of the "Oceanic 6" - there was obviously a great deal of publicity surrounding their return from the island. Everyone knows who they are. Their story has been told. Or has it? Jack's testimony at Kate's trial is a cover story. A well rehearsed cover story that the "6" would have to have agreed on and stuck to: the water landing, eight survivors, two of whom died... Why? The rest of the group? "Are they still alive?" They've disappeared - the phantom antagonist doesn't know their fate - they are dead (doubtful) or very, very well hidden. Again, why? The funeral in Jack's flash forward was unattended and ignored, with only a small obit in the paper. This was not one of the "6" (celebrity status, remember?) But it was someone secretly connected with the island. And let's not forget Claire's back story. Aaron is possibly the antichrist. Claire is either dead, gave him up voluntarily, or he was taken from her. I think there's only one thing we know for sure. Something happens. |
