My streak of Happiness is continuing!

Sit down boys and girls. I've got a story to tell! The story is not finished but it still is a good one.

Rewind to last month. While I was in Iowa I was interviewed by a guy named Doug. He does an weekly show on an Internet Station based in Des Moines. the station actually has a studio and we went down there and met him. We were going to sit down for about 15 minutes and talk about my mission and story. The interview ended up lasting the entire show. He was blown away with my story and what I wanted to do.

Fast forward a week. I'm in Indiana spending time with my traveling companion's family. We were heading to one of his kids games and I had a great phone signal for the first time in a few days. So I call my parents and tell them how I am doing. My friend (John) has me hand the phone to him and asks them "Have you gotten a box in the mail? He continues, "Well, I can't tell you what it is cause Brian's sitting right next to me but be on the lookout." Score! I'm going to have a Surprise box waiting for me when I get back home!

My last stop before flying back home was Michigan and guess what? My friend there also knows about the box! I had a wonderful trip but when it is about to end you don't want it to. The box was therapeutic. It gave me a reason to look forward to returning home. Guess what? I land back in Atlanta and my parents tell me "Brian, we don't know what is in it but that box has not arrived yet." Talk about puncturing the air right out of my balloon.

For the next few days the bane of my existence is this stupid box. Well the mail comes and nothing. Meanwhile I am chatting with folks on Facebook and guess what? 9 out of 10 of them know about the box as well!

Finally I decide to just let it go. The box will come whenever it is good and ready.

(to be continued)

So I just let it go. It did come up in passing thoughts but I would quickly move on. I did jump up every time the door bell would ring.

Last Thursday I stopped in to my friend Doug's radio show for the first time since I was his guest. The station has a video feed and a chat room. He was very happy to see me in the room and he exclaimed "Brian, it's wonderful to see you here. I've got great news pertinent to share with you today! Of course that kept me around for the whole hour. To make a long story short he ran out of time before he could fill me in.

I confronted him in a Google chat Friday morning. I asked him what all the fuss was about. "Brian, Christmas is coming early! I have in my possession a brand new laptop computer for you (along with some hardware so you can do your own show for your group)!" I am ecstatic! However I have not made the connection yet.

After talking with a few friends I realize that this is the box I have been waiting for! Or is it? Later Friday evening I have a chat with Melody, a friend in Iowa who got me in touch with Doug in the first place. I tell her about what Doug told me and she asked "Who spilled the beans? Tell me everything you know" She laughed and said, "Brian, you don't even know the half of it! By the time everything is revealed, you will be convinced I should be a lobbyist in DC because I have deceived you so much" A few other people close to the situation have confirmed to me that the laptop may be just an appetizer to something else.

How exciting?! I'll be sure to let y'all know what ends up happening.

Geeze, the guys working on our house (we're building a new kitchen) let the dog out of his safe room. When they tried to put him back in.... *SNAP*.

Not too serious, but enough that the guy went to have it checked out.

We are, for all intents and purposes, done with clearing out what will be the nursery. Still have to unload the big furniture, but that's the easy part. Sorting through the 11 years' worth of accumulation, making the hard decisions about what to toss, and finding/creating space for what to keep is behind us.

Now the rebuilding begins. Today we talked colors, and much to our surprise we came to a consensus in short order. It helps that we were working from an existing color palette, but it was still a nice surprise to actually be on the same aesthetic page form the get-go for once.

Meanwhile I have fully spec'd out a custom closet storage beast that I plan on building myself. Cubes for easy-access storage bins, cabinets w/doors for large storage, and a chest of drawers. It's by far the largest carpentry project I'll have ever done. So far I've had a ton of fun drawing up plans, making materials and cut lists. Hopefully the fun lasts. I think I've come up with a design that, once I learn from my mistakes on the first couple tries, should be fairly easy. Pretty much every piece will be using the same list of cuts, just scaled up or down, and everything is going to be modular so I can focus on individual units that fit together rather than having to build the whole thing at once (which carries the added benefits of being movable/reconfigurable AND if I make the first few units and subsequently give up, I should still have some usable stuff to show for it). Best of all, it should cost 1/2 of what children's furniture stores charge for shoddy furniture.

Tomorrow will be round one of supply procurement. Happy happy joy joy.
