Apparently there is a bit of spring fever at Headliners school. Today we were sent this directive worthy of Dolores Umbridge.
1) Announce this new policy TODAY (4/26/11).
2) Post this new policy in the classroom.
3) Tell students they MUST check their desk upon entering the classroom and at the end of class. If the next class finds graffiti, the previous student will be billed.
4) Teachers must walk around the classroom to notice where/who is generating the graffiti. Graffiti has been drawn onto the front and rear of desks. If graffiti is found by the newly entering students, all the previous students who sat at the desk will split the bill for cleaning.
"If graffiti recurs and teachers have not billed students, it will be the teachers responsibility to clean the graffiti.
"Thanks for helping to solve this problem."
If you were an evil minded desk graffiti'er how would you react to this policy?

I feel bad for the teachers who now have to patrol their classroom looking for graffiti instead of actually teaching.
I'm sure my brother would have randomly dooddled everywhere after hearing that announcement.Especially places where there were no tachers, just to prove his point!

Biked to work today after a long time off. I think I've biked twice in the last 2+ weeks, mostly because I wasn't going in to work (spent a short stint working from home, then went out of town). Took a few voluntary days off to recover from the craziness, but today definitely felt like a tipping point. There were a lot of factors that would have made it easy to leave the bike at home, and but I really felt as if inertia would then set in, so I forced myself to get on the bike today. I was immediately glad I did, good to be back.

I've been biking pretty regularly for the last three years, but my cheap-ass Target-purchased Schwinn has given out on me, and I can't afford to repair or replace. Bicycling has been the only kind of exercise from which I derive actual pleasure. Now that I've been walking, I hate it all the more for not being biking. *sigh*

The wheel frames are badly bent, so the whole thing is wobbly. The gear assembly has fallen off (for the second time). Technically both are fixable, but I haven't the means presently. (Nor the know-how to do it myself - something I ought to learn to do.) My first year with this bike was fine, since then, it's been a battle with built-in crappiness. If I have a good summer work-wise, I will surely be upgrading.

Moonie- it helps if you take it easy with your pace when biking in. My hubby has a short commute, and does it frequently by bike, with no need to shower. I bike all over the city, in normal clothes, with no need to shower.

I'm toying with the idea of an eBike (http://www.electric-bikes.com/bikes/bikes.html). Scoot in on power in the morning and get my exercise on the way home. Based on the price of parking around here I'd be looking at around an 18-month ROI.

E-bikes are a good choice. There are also power-assisted bikes; you still pedal, but the bike gives you a helping hand so you don't work as hard. I haven't tried one for any distance, but it was fun for a test.

Then it somehow, of its own volition, goes on the interweb and comes up with an avatar for ME, that shows up when I call Mark - and it's an avatar that I used on the LoT, and only on the LoT, a year or so ago. W.T.F.???

There's an app that listens to songs and tells you what song it is along with other info. Maybe it was still running in the background.
As for the avatar, are you sure you didn't use it on facebook at some point in time? If you use facebook on android, it will pull contact info and photos from facebook to it.

I really enjoyed my online experience and felt it meshed really well with being able to work and take care of other things. The only challenge was group projects. Between different work schedules, personal commitments and time zones (since I was usually working with people on east coast time) it was hard to schedule but we worked it out.

I just booked a flight on United for flying out of John Wayne into Des Moines on May 8 (returning on the 10th). Since I will need to make the same trip two weeks later, I looked ahead at that one (exact same flights) and the fare jumps from $396 to $703. WTF?!?
That is through the United site. There are plenty of seats available. I looked on Expedia and Cheap Tickets and the flights don't even show up there.
There are other flight options where I can bring the cost down, but it is weird that the exact same itinerary goes up by 78%

Kevy, perhaps it is because of Memorial day?
Don't know if it has an impact, but two weeks later your getting into the shadow of Memorial Day travel, schools (university) are ending for summer, etc.
Plus United just announced a price hike due to rising fuels costs (though don't know what that's impacting).

I don't know if there are different times but Bing's travel search is showing $331 for SNA to DSM on the 22nd and return the 24th on United (through O'Hare outbound and Denver coming back). And the result it is returning for that is through CheapTickets.

While I don't like to waste money, I am going to fly at a reasonable hour since I am already giving up my Sunday.
By flying out through Chicago (which I normally try to avoid), departing around 2:00 and returning through Denver, departing around 4:00 gets me down to $461 + tax

No, it isn't the best way to deal with the situation, but it is usually what I want to do first when I hear about back yard breeders. Because I am so involved in rescue of both pugs and cats and I see how many pure breed and "designer breed" dogs are unceremoniously dumped at shelters, abandoned on the street and killed daily via cars, predators or euthanasia, I tend to get a bit hot headed.

We went to see two friends in a drag show last night, which also featured burlesque dancers. Our favorite did a gold-mining number, which began with the recorded spiel for Big Thunder Mountain, which ends "...wildest ride in the wilderness." Not only was her dancing terrific, I was so tickled by the fact that she was doing a Disneyland-ish striptease that I thought I might be hallucinating.
Which leads me to the realization that a full Disneyland-themed burlesque show would be FANTASTIC.

The good news is that I noticed the birds I've been feeding were feasting on the pincher bugs this morning. Between them and the toad, I hope they get it under control.

This happens every March (http://www.facebook.com/burlesqueland). Maybe next year?

You have no idea how gross they are until you've seen them covering a wall outside at dusk.
I take this back. You have no idea how gross they are until you've seen them all over the living room carpet and front door at 2:30 am when you get up to pee.
I vaccuumed them up and then went on a hunt and found some more under the table. Nothing like the 100-200 around the front door though. I need to get a new seal for around the front door... and stop typing about this as it's giving me the creeps and chills - literally had a that chill go up the spine thing. blech. ew ew ew.

I've read that they don't transmit disease and they don't crawl in your ear and lay eggs (as my husband was sure they did!) but that doesn't help.
The birds, which seem to love to eat them, aren't out at night when they are. I'm afraid to spray chemicals with 2 chihuahua's and a kitty.
I think I'll walk around with some caulk and see if I can't seal up any cracks they may be hiding in. But yes. ew ew ew.

I believe that the colors in the step sisters image is altered.
And seeing as royal wedding attire for men is based on military tradition, it's not particularly surprising that his clothes would match a depiction of royal wedding attire.
Plus, what bride and groom is that anyway? It's not any of the classic Disney princesses as far as I can tell.

My daughter recently discovered high school theater. Yay! Unfortunately, she didn't move quick enough to be involved in it more than painting sets and being an usher/ticket taker. But she had a blast. (She was encouraged to try out, albeit late, by her friends but never did for some reason... and then regretted it.)
She has vowed to try out for every one next year! I'm excited for her and glad she's particpating more in school activities. I regretted later that I was "too cool" or not "cool enough" (?) for such things.
By the way, they did Phantom of the Opera - supposedly the first high school to do it. With a grand chandelier that swung down and everything along with some special mirror effects.

I guess this must be the same storm that grounded then canceled Chris' flight before it could take off from LAX to Chicago. Interestingly, Kevin left JWA 2 hours earlier for Chicago, made it, had an hour layover and got out of O'Hare for Des Moines just in time (apparently amidst a lightening storm - but he needs to tell that story).

Things appear to be centered - nope - it's all spaces. Inconsistant spacing between words and sentences. Spacing to the next line instead of hitting return. Spaces instead of tabs. How many fonts did you use in this one document? Random creative spellings and gramatical weirdness. Oh - and they "pre-designed" it in word - it's a brochure - or at at least it wants to be.

Oliver kitty does NOT want to wear a collar. His previous collar had a little stretch band on it - I assume to help him get out of the collar should it get hooked on something? He would fight with it and bite at it until he got it hooked in his jaw and flop around like a fish out of water. :( Getting it off him was tramatic and painful. So he didn't wear a collar - and didn't go outside.
Lately though he's been running for the door when the dogs go out and who can blame him - it's a beautiful day and we have a large yard with a flower garden veggie garden, trees and lot's of sunshine (at least today.)
When I came upon another collar my Mom had picked up for one of our dogs, that didn't fit them, but was the right size for Oliver and without the stretchy, I decided to put it on him. It's got a name tag with contact info and a bell. It's driving him CRAZY!
He's scratched at it, meowed a bunch, tried to bite it, shook his head, jumped about, rolled around, and ran back and forth through the house like a trapped wild animal. Poor guy. It's for your own good, damnit!

So what you're saying is, It's Naked Day!
So, here's a sign of how I connect with my family that I think may be up there with the time I made an unexpected visit to my childhood home town and ended up being unable to say hi to my mom because I didn't know she'd moved and none of the phone numbers I had for her were working.
My half-sister posted a picture of herself and her girlfriend to Facebook. I had no idea which one was her and which one was the girlfriend (and no, they don't look alike).

I went to a family reunion last year. We had to wear name tags but you clearly have me beat with the mom thing.
And the thing is that I have good easy going relationships with these people. I just don't need to see them all that often (and when my dad died there was no reason for me to see that side at all).

According to Lani the writing on the ears says "Kai Kai" and "Ki Ki" which lead me to this site:

Kai Kai and Ki Ki are the names of those 2 characters, the creation of which (as well as the characters on their ears identifying them) pre-dated the creation of the foundation. So it may not be an explicit plug for the foundation, at least not any more than any Murakami art is (the blurring of the line between art, commercialism, and promotion is a large theme in his work, so much of what he does is by nature explicit promotion). But then, I suppose the foundation's sustainability goals are somewhat relevant to the interests of people interested in the solstice so perhaps it was meant to be a direct tie in.

Interesting Al update yesterday.
Thanks for the heads-up, Morrigoon. I haven't been reading any Disney news for quite awhile but we're going to WDW trip in the Fall.
Background: George Clooney filmed "Ides of March" at my older daughter's college in Ohio this Spring. Lots of stories of equipment trucks and vans blocking driveways, Clooney and Ryan Gosling sightings, etc. It's a political film involving someone running for president - there was a faux campaign bus that kept blocking driveways and narrow streets. So: The film is going to open the Venice International Film Festival.

His newest project is named Kory and is out cleaning up Dave's garden and doing odd jobs around his house. He's very nice on he eyes!I *think* I get what you're saying, but this type of thing confuses me.
Here's how I read this:
Our neighbor behind us, Dave has a thing for lost puppies (of the blonde bombshell variety). His newest project is named Carrie and is out cleaning up Dave's garden and doing odd jobs around his house. She's very nice on the eyes!
I mean, isn't that really demeaning for anyone? Just because it's a male it's ok? I'm kind of horrified when I hear stuff like this.
It's a spectrum.
"There's a very attractive person working in the garden next door."
"There's a young very attractive person working in the garden next door."
"There's a young very attractive person working in the garden of the person next door."
"There's a young, very attractive person working in the garden of the person next door and is dating our neighbor."
"There's a young, very attractive person working in the garden of the person next door and is the most recent of a long string of people dating our neighbor."
"There's a young sweet thang working half nekkid in the dirt plot next door, boy do I appreciate the rate at which our neighbor plows through them as it's nice eye candy."
"I was just standing naked at the blinds pulling one off while watching the neighbor's newest barely legal conquest work up a sweat in the garden next door."

Alex is hilarious and also correct. It crosses the line for me.
I'm often surprised at how often I hear this kind of thing among gays..."sugar daddies" and the like. I think it proves that it's not true physical weakness that distinguishes women as subs, but simply a concept of who's on top.
To me, it's still people being treated like inferiors. Perhaps someday we'll hear about the struggle for twink rights.
