Anyone interested in going? Iv'e been wanting to go for ever and I ADORE Sunset Boulevard. Saturday, July 9th.

They do this almost weekly during the summer, so there will be others.

CINESPIA PRESENTS:

Cemetery Screenings every Saturday, all summer long!

SUNSET BLVD.

Directed by Billy Wilder

Saturday, July 9th

Gates at 7:30

Film at 9:00

Hollywood Forever Cemetery

6000 Santa Monica Blvd at Gower

$10 admission. Parking is Free

In this scathing dark comedy, incomparable writer/director Billy Wilder turns his gaze towards the world of the movie-making business. A fading silent film star hides an up-and-coming screenwriter on the run, slowly entrapping him in a deadly web. Gloria Swanson gives one of the greatest performances in history as the grandiose has-been teetering on the edge of sanity. What better place to watch the film than in the shadow of Paramount studios and alongside so many silent film stars who are now forgotten by the denizens of modern Hollywood? The film features Cemetery resident and legendary film-maker Cecil B. DeMille.

Bring blankets, picnic dinner and drinks for this special screening below (and above) the stars.

And Hollywood Forever cemetery backs up against Paramount Studios, which produced and is featured in the film.

You can get (a little too) close-up with Mr. DeMille. I wonder how many other people in the film are in this cemetery?

I wonder how many other people in the film are in this cemetery?

Well, I don't know as far as people in the film, but there are quite a few celebrities at this cemetery.

Valentino
Tyrone Power
Mel Blanc
Peter Finch
Douglas Fairbanks Sr. and Jr.
Benjamin "Bugsy" Seigel
Jayne Mansfield
Joan Hackett
Peter Lorre
Virginia Rappe (the woman supposedly killed by Fatty Arbuckle)

I would love to see a film there, ESPECIALLY "Sunset Blvd.". We love that movie. Don't think this weekend is going to work for us though (damn work schedules). If another film comes up later that people would be interested in seeing, we'll do our best to attend. It sounds like a great place to go see a movie.

I will get back to you on this. I would love to see that movie in a cemetary. Fantastic!

That cemetary itself is worth a half-day trip! It's something else! Sunset Blvd is such a classic. I daresay I even enjoyed Sir ALWebber's musical version too <ducks rapidly>, especially when they pay homage to the movie itself with the chase sequence playback.

Tref, dear- are you so desperate for an avatar that you had to borrow the Commodore's? I'm sure we can hold an avatar drive for you, if that wouldn't be too embarassing. We all run out of avatars from time to time- there is no shame in that!;)

Hehe. I appreciate your kind words, WB.

I spent all night trying to re-configure my photos to fit LoT, but no matter what I did -- it just would not work. I did this as a test. But I must admit -- Ilikeit.

What is it, Shep? That's just the Commodore. You know, the Commodore, good friend of yours. Shep, stop it now, don't be silly.

*dog barks and growls loudly*

I'm sorry Commodore, I don't know why Shep is acting like this, I apologize. He's never acted this way towards you before....Shep! Stop it! Bad dog!

*drags snarling dog away*

The animals can sense it....

Quite frankly, I think I look better as the Commodore! I always thought I looked good with a pipe. Toot!

Complete thread derail here...

But when Popeye blows through his pipe, why isn't he sprayed in the face with burning ash? (this question comes to you from George Carlin)

Back to the regularly scheduled thread...

Dang, I wish I could go! That sounds like so much fun. I gotts to get that film on DVD.

BTW, I worked on the Paramount lot a couple times and I made it a point to see some of the "sites" from the film. I believe it was stage 18? And that 2 story writer's offices across from the stage was still there circa 1998. Lots of history on that lot...

I'd love to hear a report on the goings on!! ;)

It wasn't a cemetary, but I did go to tonight's Fremont Outdoor Movie and I did think of Not Afraid often -- as tonight's feature was Monty Python and the Holy Grail.

Okay, the Sunset Boulevard Screening was awesome. I can't think of a better showing of this film. First off, a hip crowd that you know is full of industry types, A pre-show DJ spinning swank sounds, a Hollywood classic, with killer noir dialogue, shown in the cemetary that some of the greats were burried. I think we'll definately be going back.

Next week is Kubrick's Lolita - which I'll regret missing, as it's one of my favorites. But the following week is Breakfest at Tiffany's - Audrey Hepburn's finest. I think we'll try to get to that one.
