I found that picture to be disturbing enough, without even clicking on the link.

Bad, bad, idea.

an ad purposfully designed with a short shelf-life in order to create exactly the sh!t storm it's already done. now they pull the ad and the fire is already burning. totally beats trying to run a long (albeit tame) life ad that is 50% less effective for the life of the campaign than this one is in a matter of days.

creative marketing. offend as many as possible as quickly as possible then say 'Im sorry'.

from a totally objective standpoint...hella marketing
personally....eh. I see more racist things every day, just not usually as part of an international ad campaign.

the other accompanying ads (http://www.joystiq.com/2006/07/04/ad-critic-sonys-racially-charged-psp-ad/)

Q: still racist or one image taken out of context?

I think this ad was put out there to get noticed. Then Sony, in a couple of weeks, will say 'Oops we're sorry, we'll pull the ad' and then by that time the extra publicity they were looking for will have already reached tons of people they couldn't reach by conventional advertising. It's a ploy.

Me and advertising... we're like this - :crosses fingers:
;)

Edit to add: my comment was already stated better by the Capt... :)
