Hello,

After attending wedding shenanigans in San Francisco from Aug 31-Sept 2, I will be in Southern California from the 3rd of Sept to the 10th. Is anyone interested in a Lot meet during that time? I plan to spend numerous days at the park and am flexible.

There are a couple of days where I will be meeting with friends from college and from the olden days when I used to work in Burbank. But outside of that, my schedule's up in the air like a hooker's legs on payday.

Let me know.

Sincerely ready for a vacation,

Brad

Dadgummit! You don't give a person much time to plan, do you?

Oh well, if wishes were horses... blah blah blah

I've been trying to get out again in early October, but I'm not even sure that's going to work out.

I vote for the first Saturday you're in town.

(Saturday will still have later hours than Sunday, even when summer hours have - bah - just ended right about then, huh?)

I vote for the first Saturday you're in town.According to what he said above, that would be the 9th. GD and I are busy that day. :( The 3rd or the 10th would be fine by us but I figure you're traveling at some point on both of those days. We would show up for a weeknight if that's our only choice...

No worries. I forsee many trips to the park in the future...
Besides...I'm really boring in person. :D
No Frodo, no deal.
Frodo chase bunny. Frodo catch bunny. Frodo eat bunny. Frodo + Munchykins = Big Bad Doings. :D
Which reminds me, we need to find a sitter for Frodo.

Hello,

After attending wedding shenanigans in San Francisco from Aug 31-Sept 2,
Sincerely ready for a vacation,

Brad

:)

Can I interest you in PHantom of the Opera at the Stanford Theatre on 9/1 and a dinner at Jing Jing (a sczchaun/hunan place) around the corner from the theatre. If it does not conflict with wedding duties.

Of, if you want to do dinner at my place or in the city somewhere, that can be arranged!

I'll PM pertinant phone numbers

That does sound fabulous. But unfortunately, I'm going to be up to my ears in wedding doings. I'm helping organize, setting up, containing a wonderful bridezilla and driving folks to and fro.
I wish I could hang out with you, Snowflake. Next time, I promise.

Donna,
Do you know of any cool hotels near 555 California Street that you could recommend? I need to find a place for myself and a few wedding party members to stay at.
Well, 555 is going to put you very close to the financial district and the Omni is right next to that.

What's the price range people are willing to spend, you're very close to Nob Hill and Union Square and there are many hotels in the area, most expensive.

If it were you and Ralphie, alone, I'd say stay here with me (I'm on California at the 2000 block)

Get back to me and I will see what I can dig up once I know the price range you are looking for.

I'm glad you are going to try to move back to Sunny CA, that will make meets more convenient!

I will say yes to the 9th (and most likely NM, too). We return from Ecuador on the 5th. Teachers go back the 5th and kids come the 7th (I have to ditch my first day of school). I will be tired from jetlag and my first week of work in 74 days, but I can't say no to seeing GC.

Also, my school is only 5 miles from DL, so if there is a weekday meet, I will try to make that, too. GC is AWESOME!!!

Hmmm, I would say a Sunday Diz meet could work, following a Saturday night Cemetery screening (depending on what's playing).

I just have to find some way for G.C. to see Remember fireworks one last time before they glow away forever .... so if no Diz on Saturday, I'll make a second visit with him (and whomever else) on a weeknight.

Then on other weekngihts, we'll do other things. I want a G.C. fix in the worst way!

Babette
08-14-2006, 08:58 PM
Darn! It looks like the parks close early on weekdays, starting after Labor Day. Tue-Thur: DL 8pm, DCA 6pm* Does that mean no fireworks? I do agree GC needs to experience a cemetery screening (depending on what's playing).

*Subject to change without notice.

I found a hotel. Thank you for your help, though. :) I'll be at the Omni. I got a request from the bride that she wants me to stay near her. (I love her so much. I'm very happy for her.)

katiesue - I'd love to see you if you can. I don't think we've officially met in person. :)

I totally want to see a cemetary screening. I think that would be fun stuff!

GD - No licking paws. Check.
CM - Riding mechanical bulls. Heck no.
iSm - Must see fireworks. Check.

Must go to Disneyland to see Haunted Mansion bride before HM gets its Holiday overlay.

Snowflake

Very cool, the Omni is very nice!

If you have time, Aqua is a very nice place for lunch (fantabulous seafood) and Tadich Grill is fun too, old style, oldest restaurant in town. Both on California Street heading in the direction of the Ferry Bldg.

The Slanted Door in the Ferry Building is nice (Vietnamese) and swanky decor and gorgeous views.

Boulevard used to be one of my favorite spots, but I've not been since I returned.

9/3 - Land at LAX. Meet Ralphie's sister for dinner. Stay at her place that night.
9/4 - Possible trip to Universal to meet CoasterMatt and his lovely lady. Evening at the Hotel Swank.
9/5 - DL
9/6 - ?
9/7 - 'Little Mermaid' with iSm?
9/8 - ?
9/9 - Cemetery screening?
9/10 - LoT Meet at DL. Leave from LAX @ 10:30pm
9/11 - Arrive in Boston.

Must meet with my other non-LoT friends somewhere in there. They're being flexible... And there must be multiple trips to the park in there, too. Gotta make use of the AP I'm going to purchase. :)

So, GC was so excited to go to the park this morning, he got up a dawn and headed out. (I was working.) He bought his AP and now has full access to the Park. I'm going to join him a bit later - at least for a little while.

Had a wonderful day at the park.
-Loved POTC. Didn't really care for the Davey Jones projection and his spiel at the end, but the rest was fine.
-The HM bride was meh for me. Haaate her voice. Love the portraits in the attic. The ghost face in the seance room is eerie.
-Monsters Inc is 100% better than Pooh. Love it.
-The Jack Sparrow face character I saw today was really funny.
-The pirates show is pretty funny too. One pirate sang 'So This is Love' to a treasure chest. Very funny.

-Best of all... NA and I got to pilot the Mark Twain. I have an official certificate commemorating the experience. I have something to add to my professional resume now. Mark Twain Captain. :)

I'm going to be there many times this week... hopefully. Definitely on Sunday.

Universal was fun too. Coaster Matt rocks. I'll post more about that later.

Having a great time.

The latest from Atlantis:
Hi Hon,

It was fantastic! It was so cool. Going down the bioluminescence was amazing! The vents were so cool. They have a pinging water phone that we used to talked to the ship that sounded just like the old submarine ride at Disneyland. It was very exciting, we were in a couple of tight spots and accidently knocked over a small volcanic chimney that collapsed right in front of us, but we were fine. I'm hooked.

love you

How cool! We were able to get The Boy up there on one of our last visits. When we were walking up, other people tried to follow us. A lot kept pointing up to us and one older gentleman with his grandson asked how do you get to 'cockpit' {whatever that part is called..} and me, being quite happy and quite the cheeky cow said 'Practice, practice, practice'.

Now, it really didn't make sense and he didn't get it nor did he like it.

Well...as a follow up to the Mark Twain post...

While taking my son to school we were discussing his schools' upcoming excursion to Disneyland. He is excited as this is a new school and basically all new students; and, he has made a lot of new friends, two that will be going.

So, I said 'Oh, wouldn't that be cool if the three of you were able to steer the Mark Twain like you did??'

His reply.

'Ah, no. Let's save that experience for someone who still believes in the magic. Someone who would really believe they are steering.'

I laughed. {while he is a curmudgeon, I reckoned what he said to your experience, GC, and well, YOU surely did fit the bill, believing in the magic}.

I asked if he remembered meeting you in Monterey and he said yes. I told him you had done just that very same thing yesterday. And, I said, Lisa, the redhead we've met, she did it, too.

Now, I think telling him that really made him think. I hope so. I think at that age kids try to be so grown up. I think it may have to do with being conned about the tooth fairy, etc. But, for him to hear that you guys did it, I think it really made him think. He didn't say anything but I was glad to enlighten him that way.

I think he thinks we have him do things because kids would like it. No. I have him do things because they are fun. :D

Okay...enough of that...

It is a special treat indeed. took MommaLumbo up a few months back... geesh the stairs are steep!.... anyway, i insisted that she "pilot", but i had to assist her with whistle and bell (LOL she could not reach)... she had fun... until, just before Hungry Bear I scared her by saying with an excited tone to "turn HARD right - DON'T hit the restaurant and OH, watch out for those rocks!!"

she said, "here, you'd better drive."

MickeyLumbo~ That's funny! {thanks for the correct term, too}. My husband was doing that to the Boy but I could see on his face being torn 'Is Dad kidding? Am I really steering???? ' I think he was worried and he really kept up at it and was quite serious.

Yes, those stairs are steep. And, not a lot of room up there. But the view! And that feeling!!:snap: :snap:

What a great vacation I had. It was wonderful.

I spent three days in SF and helped coordinate my friend Julie’s wedding. It was lots of fun. The Carnelian Room is where the ceremony and reception took place. It’s on the 52 floor of a tall bldg in SF with a 360 view of the city. From there we could see the Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz and the Bay Bridge and the whole city. It was beautiful. The reception took place at sunset and we got to see the changing view and the city at night. Lots of lights. It was a great time. The bride was very happy.

Off to LA from there. My first stop was to see Ralphie’s sister and her husband. We had a great time eating at their favorite Mexican restaurant and dessert place. I wish I could remember the names…

Next was Coaster Matt day at Universal. I had a great time at Universal. I hadn’t been there since Jurassic Park opened and was thrilled to see the changes. ET was gone but a pretty cool coaster was in its place. The Mummy was good but a little too short for me. One of the AAs was really awesome. I also enjoyed the mummy hands coming down from the ceiling… My favorite attraction was T2. Loved the cinemascope 3D. Nice touch. Everything else was fun. Back to the Future is a little dated and needs to be replaced imho.
I enjoyed talking with Coaster Matt after his shift was over. We talked about life and coasters. It was cool. He also clued me in to an uncrowded section of the park that the public can get to but only if they are observant.
We met Mrs. Coaster Matt for only a few seconds. She was busy with line management at the Mummy coaster.
After some shopping at CityWalk, I bid Matt a farewell and headed off to Hotel Swank.

Chris and Lisa were, of course, awesome hosts. I also got reintroduced to the kitties. My favorite is Charlie. He and I bonded. Scoundrel wanted to eat my feet, Jack wanted me to pay attention to him and not Charlie, Buster was the phantom cat appearing only once or twice and Dexter loves Lisa most so he wanted little to do with me or anyone else. My cat allergies disappeared while I was there thanks to Flonase, Clartin D 24 and Advair. Drugged up I was…

I had great fun at Disneyland. Four days worth of it. It was a blast. Some of the highlights:
- Getting to pilot the Mark Twain and getting a certificate to boot.
- Great eats at the Jazz Kitchen. I got served by some cuties there. No pun intended…
- Riding Space Mountain with innerSpaceman’s rainbow glasses. Very cool.
- Shopping shopping shopping. I bought a cool patriotic Donald figurine on Main Street and a cool pirates shirt that says ‘The beatings will continue until morale improves.’ Love that shirt.
- I rode rides I have never been on before: Astro-Orbiter, Mullholland Madness and the Sun Wheel. (I will never ride the Sun Wheel again. The rocking cars freaked me out.)
- I also rode Monsters Inc (loved it) and Pirates (I like Johnny) and the Haunted Mansion (hate the bride’s voice, love the rest of the changes).
The meet was wonderful and got to see a mess of LoTters and MiceChatters. It was nice getting to put faces to the names. Katiesue and SubLaGoon to name a couple…

I had so much fun. I also helped Lisa walk doggies.

Lisa and I also went to the Long Beach Aquarium and I got Lorikeet poop on my brand new shoes. We also watched a sloth like animal bite one of the husbandry people. We also saw sea snakes, stingrays and leafy sea dragons just to name a few…

The Little Mermaid was cool. Watching Alan Menken play the piano was memorable.

Another highlight was watching ‘Beyond the Valley of the Dolls’ with Lisa and Chris while feasting on L&L Drive Inn food. That was awesome.

Thank you to Katiesue, Debra, SubLaGoon, SzcerbiakManiac, NirvanaMan, Babette, BarTopDancer and Dolores, Not Afraid, Euromeinke, innerSpaceman, zapppop, Gn2Dlnd, GD, CP, Dustysage, Fishbulb, Grumpy4, Witches of Morva, LSPE, Tom, CoasterMatt and Mrs. CoasterMatt, AlexStroup, Fred MacMurray, Roy Disney, Donald Duck and Hercules and anyone I forgot for making my trip memorable. I had the best time ever and as you could probably tell, I had a hard time leaving y’all.

There are pictures but those may take me awhile. I am typing on my new laptop and that’s about the only thing I know how to do on it at the moment. I hope to post pics someday…

I had the bestest bestest time.

I’m sure I missed out on some primo stuff, but I’ll add it as my memory allows.

That was a great re-cap and it was very cool to meet you (and several others too)!

The rocking Sun Wheel thing is funny. I got to go on the Wonder Wheel in Coney Island once. It has the swinging cars and has the extra advantage of being OLD, RICKETY, and DECREPIT (like myself). That was the scariest ride I have ever been on. Excluding my first marriage.

Gemini Cricket

My bucket on the Sun Wheel was the only one rocking like an out of control pendulum. It was embarassing. :D At a couple of points, the sides of my bucket were parallel with the ground. It was frightening to see straight to the ground through the side windows. AND there are no seatbelts nor rails to hold on to. I clung to the metal grating like a cat.

CoasterMatt's thread reminded me of something I forgot to mention. When I was at Universal, I wanted to do everything I could. So I went into the Van Helsing Castle. The problem was was that I thought it was a stage show with a very elaborate queue. So when monsters were jumping out at me, I thought, 'Huh, they had a budget for their queue. Neat.' So I just shrugged the monsters off. 'Ooh, good one, buddy.' 'Nice. Ya got me.' 'Ha ha.' At one point, the CM pointed me towards a set of stairs that looked like risers to a seating area. So I'm all, 'Great. Here's the auditorium.' But there was no auditorium. I kept going and going. Then a huge Van Helsing werewolf jumped out at me and then I realized I was now back outside in the sun. There was no show. It was a haunted house. I hadn't known that going in. I was expecting a show like the 'Conan' or 'Frankenstein' shows from long ago. No dice.
I spoke to a CM after and said, 'Oh, it's a haunted house. Not a show.'
He replied, 'Yeah, we get that a lot.'
:D
One of the Universal leads that Matt introduced me to asked me if I actually read the map I was given. I said, 'No.' But he too said that that was a complaint he got from time to time.
