lube job (http://mfile.akamai.com/12924/wmv/vod.ibsys.com/2006/0503/9152183.200k.asx)

not just one chain seems industry wide practice (http://www.nbc4.tv/video/2620224/index.html#)

Links aren't working for me on my lame work computer.

My dad has worked in auto repair all of his life. He's had to quit jobs because the owners were crooked. The rule of thumb is this - the bigger the company, the less problem they have with cheating people, because they can afford to get sued. The smaller places need your business and can't handle lawsuits.

Of course you can get screwed anywhere, so the real rule is "know what the hell you're doing."

Doesn't surprise me. The only jiffly lube type place I occasionally go to drives me bonkers trying to hard sell me all kinds of extra services. My favorite is they keep insisting I need my air conditioning filters changed - um I DON'T HAVE AIRCONDITIONING. Then they try to tell me I need it anyway?

Isn't this like two or three years old?

Still good to be careful.

No, NBC4 just did a follow up type series...same results as the one they did a few years ago.
