Ok, so I have been geting into the indie scene lately and have decided that I would really like a marine tunic to look styling. The only problem is I don't know where to start to find one, they have some on ebay but most are in the UK of all places! And the ones they do have on there would not fit a 7 year old girl! My size is about a 42R, most are a 36S! Plus I have had problems with swanky treads from ebay so I don't want to go in that direction if I don't have too. So does anybody know any cool trift stores in the L.A. area that would sell swanky militay duds? Here is a pic of what I am looking for...usmc tunic (http://i10.ebayimg.com/01/i/03/84/20/e3_1_b.JPG)

Do a basic Google search for "Marine Corps Tunic (http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=marine+corps+tunic)." You'll find a whole host of places like this one (http://www.emarinepx.com/by_command_shirts.htm).

Yeah, the indie rock military look is pretty swanky if you can pull it off.

Check out this cool snap of The (late great?) Libertines:

Sorry dude.

I think it's totally disrespectful to wear a military uniform that takes a lot of hard work and training as a fashion item. And that goes for any branch.

And yes, I am fully expecting bad mojo for this post.

Hey now, if I want to wear my navy jumper out in town as a fashion item, I will dammit, I paid a lot for that article of clothing.

Go right ahead. You earned the right to wear it if you really want too.

But for the OP, the best source I ever found for navy/marine uniforms was here (https://www.nexnet.navy.mil/pls/nexauth/wg_shop_online). Only caveat is you have to have a login to buy from them, and they are a pretty exclusive retailer. I am sure you can find someone in the San Diego/LA area that is able to login there though, and may even be willing to buy one for you.

Thank you BarTopDancer for your opinion. I can see how someone not in the military wearing a uniform can be offensive. I actully tried to get into the USMC after 911, but could not get in since I have epilepsy. One of the reasons I went for the the Marines over the other branches of service was becase I loved the uniform (and Full Metal Jacket!), but I will never get the chance to wear it as a uniform but only as fashion. I mean no disrespect for the Marines in wearing wanting to wear it, but I am not going to be told I can't if I can find one just because I can't be a Marine.

One last serious suggestion is check out all the Army/Navy surplus stores in the area, they sometimes buy uniforms off prior military persons. or maybe take a trip to the SD area thrift stores or army navy surplus stores(there's a lot more military down here, and a ton of marines).

Thanks Name and Kevy, I'll have to check some of those things out. I used to get combat boots at a army navy store back in Utah, I never thought to go down to SD. In fact I have a friend that has a dad that is in the Marines that is way cool that live on coranado island. I ask him if he knows any cool places down there!

a army navy store back in UtahThe one in SLC? With the 4077 net hanging in the rafters? Cool place.

As for your tunic, I'd recommend hitting a fabric store. You can get a pattern for something military-inspired, swank it up a bit, and make sure it fits you perfectly if you do it yourself. That is, if you know how to sew or if you're willing to learn. Check the Halloween books for patterns; surely someone wants to be a Marine for Halloween.

Ooo TOTALLY good idea!!!!!!! Military inspired without wearing something that took blood sweat and tears to earn. A very wise person (poster) told me that it's just an article of clothing, the rest makes it a uniform but I can't get behind that statement. And it bothers me to no end that people are wearing present day military uniforms as fashion. Active duty military can't wear their uniforms as fashion.

BoingoOut, I am very sorry you wern't able to join the USMC. It isn't an easy branch to get into when you are healthy. But I have to say, to want to join a branch of the military because of their uniforms... well I'll just hope you had other reasons. I'm not telling you not to wear a tunic (homemade or antique is the way to go) but I think it's incredibally disrespectful to those who were able to become Marines to wear part of their dress blue uniform as a fashion statement.

That would be the place! You could find all kind of cool stuff in there. There was also this place called Smith and Edwards out in the middle of nowhere that sold a bunch of cool stuff too. I always used old military stuff for backpacking and camping since it was cheap and lasted forever!

Yeah I did not want to just join the USMC because of the uniform, it was part of it but not by far most of it, I only said it because it relates to this topic. I had a freind that was in the Marines that really loved serving and after 911 I was pretty pissed off at the people who flew planes into our buildings. It is the branch of the militay that if you get in it is very likely that you will get to really fight which is what I wanted to do, no offence but I am really glad I did not get in now since I really don't like the direction that the war on terror has gone. Don't get me wrong I support our troops and all I just don't support Bush's war (hopfully this statement will not open up a can of worms). I also had wanted to be a Marine since I was a little kid and even had a fake sword. Since I did not get in and really can't get into any branch that I can hope to see action I pretty much gave up on the military and went completly in the other direction by becoming an artist. Oh yea and I was also in Marching Band and loved the disapline.

Anyway I am going to still have to disagree with you though since I just see a USMC tunic as clothes once the person that had them gives them up. If it was an USMC tunic from a person that is on active duity then that is anouther story but I think once a Marine gives up a part of thier uniform to a trift store or whatever it becomes fasion nothing more, and if you have a problem with anybody it should not be me but the person that does not respect their uniform enough to give it up if you see that as such a big deal. I don't think its a big deal at all.

As for making my own I will see, but if I can get ahold of a real one that is what I really want to do (antique or new). And just let me say this, if the military did not want to have people wear uniforms as fasion then they should stop making such swanky duds!
