Ok, here's the 90-second teaser that I recently cut for the show that I'm helping to pitch:

http://web.mac.com/tdsproductions/iWeb/Total%20Dynamic%20Studios/Sample1.html

Honest feedback is most welcome and appreciated. My feelings will not be hurt - I use feedback to make things better, and there is always room for improvement.

Also, you will see the new animated logo at the very end of the teaser. I had to scrap the original "lens" logo, because it just didn't work well in print and wouldn't center. I like this new one, because it ends on a simple line, demanding attention, after it's initial "spark". To me, it seems a little easier on the eyes than the original concept. Feel free to comment on that too. :)

So, anyway, please watch, and let me know what you think. (Don't mind the rest of the website - I'm working on it right now.)

already better than "Car Crazy" and half the other shows I watch regularly. :snap:

bravo. other than that I hope youre going to do a broader spectrum of "motorheads" than the elitest concourse/million $ car set though. theres already a show or two with those as their mainstay and to be frank...they tend to come off incredibly snobbish to the more pedestrian gearheads like myself

It's funny - the car show that's shown in the teaser had vehicles from $4,000 to $4MM. There's a lot of footage yet to be seen. ;)

That reminds me - I need to check on that legal street race coming up this weekend in San Diego.

In Living Color?

I haven't been able to watch the clip yet- for some reason, I haven't been able to view it on my Linux beast; I'll fire up Windows or something and watch it in the morning.

Hey, nice job! LSPE and I have watched, but as she is stuck late at work, I have been designated to pass along a couple of suggestions we had - we hope they'll be helpful on your next creative round.

We don't really know what kind of footage you have available to you at this point, but I did find myself thinking it would be great if you could include some of the breadth of material that will be in the show. Maybe this is something that will have to be added in over time as you do more shoots, but we think it would be great to have in there.

Also, we wouldn't have minded seeing the concept of the show spelled out more specifically, even if it was just through titles or voiceover ("Each week, we will take viewers..." etc.), because the concept wasn't entirely clear to me from the promo. You explained here on LoT the extensive range of material you plan to cover, and that's potential that the investors will want to know about! In this vein, LSPE sent me something to include, so I will quote her here: "Something that helps me when I'm working on proposals (or anything involving writing/selling, really)... are these questions. What is it that you're selling? How is it different from what everyone else is selling? Why this, why now?"

On smaller points, the text at the beginning is a little hard for me to read. I think that having the text front and center instead of angled with the video might make it easier to absorb. (LSPE says "eye-pleasing!") And I would play up the title more. You want "Motorheads" to stick in their minds! Also, it might be nice to look for opportunities to speed up the cutting, reduce the length of the dissolves, and cut to music a bit more, just to spice it up a bit.

Anyway, that's just some stuff we thought of. Please use any or none, whatever suits you.

Awesome feedback, Tom (& LSPE too)! :)

Sadly, that car show is the only footage that we have so far. The original full pitch with voiceovers, variety, et al, was extremely low-res, and I can't even use any of it. (Beside it being copyrighted by the original production company.) But, we have more shoots scheduled soon, and then I'll be making a new full pitch reel for him. Until then, this was made to supplement the original pitch reel, mainly to tie me to the show for an impromptu investor meeting a couple weeks ago.

I see what you mean about the dissolves, and some of the clips do seem to drag more than others. I'm definitely noting that for the full reel. I see what you mean about the text too - it's really hard to read online. On a bigger screen, it's much more clear. But, the angle can throw it off a bit.

Thanks SO much for taking the time to watch and review.

This was my little rush project that I had about 10 hours to digitize and complete all the way to the DVD packaging. At least with the full reel, I'll have a bit more notice, and I can rummage through my feedback notes. ;)

Great video! I would second LSPE and Tom and clarify the concept a bit more through voice-over. I wasn't sure what was going on, and by the end of the trailer I forgot it was for Motorheads. I love the music and the notes fit with the transition.

Some lovely shots in there!

I'd add to the comments above that since this is supposed to be indicative of only one episode of many different types, perhaps it could be shortened. Seemed to run a little long to me. The long transitions and long shots made me feel that this show is supposed to be for the older generation. Is that the market you're going for? Most gearhead shows that I've seen recently on Spike and the like have quick cuts. The feel that you're projecting here is much more leisurely and old school - it brings to mind Huell Howser's style.

What sticks in my head is that in the last shot you have of the host, he didn't seem too enthused, and I found that to be a weak ending.

Puter says I don't have the complete Quick Time to view this and not available! Drat...really wanted to see this!Download the latest version directly from Apple. That's what Ken had to do, and he was able to view it on his computer which is over 5 years old. :)

The feel that you're projecting here is much more leisurely and old school - it brings to mind Huell Howser's style. Yep - the show is written to be a little more laid back, set for the 25+ crowd. The full show does have a segment in there involving "hot girls with hot cars" which will appeal to the younger of that demographic.

What sticks in my head is that in the last shot you have of the host, he didn't seem too enthused, and I found that to be a weak ending. The lovely host/producer definitely is a tad rusty (he'll admit it too). That was his first time coming back to improvisational hosting after a nearly 2-year hiatus since the full pitch reel was made. So, we're still dusting off his chops. But, I'll let him know that others notice it too, not just me. :)

I'll be there. havent decided if Im driving or no.Is it on Saturday too? If it's only on Friday, then it's up to the producer whether or not we'll be there, since he still has a day job.

Also, if you're driving, mind if I ride along for some great POV shots? :D Oh, and you MUST be one of our interviews too. :snap:

I watched it. I'm not sure I have any valid comments. I've almost completely had my TV virginity restored. But, I didn't "get" what the show is about. My first impression was sort of a Huel Howser sort of thing, but by the end, I was confused. (Not hard to do with me.) I also REALLY wanted to hear what the person faintly said about "million dollars" in the background during the shot of the white car with "23" painted on it.. So much so, that it completely distracted me from the next 20 seconds or so of the commercial.

Also, the end where he "intros" the show again seems like it is a starting intro and not a conclusion.

I love your logo but I almost missed it because there was so much time given to the ending credits.

OK. Uneducated comments there. Take them or leave them.
