This story was emailed to me, but I am not sure if the sender is the someone from this board that I think might be the sender as I do not know said person's last name and I am not sure if said person wants to be attributed to this article (though I doubt said person would have an issue with it). I know that doesn't make any sense, but I wanted to, in some way, attribute the source of hearing about this story. Whew.
Lesbos islanders dispute gay name
Campaigners on the Greek island of Lesbos are to go to court in an attempt to stop a gay rights organisation from using the term "lesbian".
The islanders say that if they are successful they may then start to fight the word lesbian internationally.
The issue boils down to who has the right to call themselves Lesbians.
Is it gay women, or the 100,000 people living on Greece's third biggest island - plus another 250,000 expatriates who originate from Lesbos?
The whole story (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/7376919.stm).
There has to be some way to combine the Brainy Babes story and this one.

Those IDIOTS!
If they just thought for a second they would realize what this could do for tourism.
"Come visit our island where scores of friendly lesbians await your arrival! "
The place would be packed.

I thought the term Lesbian was specifically taken from the Island of Lesbos. Sorry, but the willingness of the ancient greeks to openly enage in homosexuality, to their credit, led to all sorts of linquistic quirks in modern times. They are stuck with it. Blame their ancestors for all that girl-on-girl action.
In other news, the Happyland people want homosexuals to stop calling themselves "GAY."

... and the residents of Christian Island (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christian_Island_(Ontario))are now demanding an audience with the pope.

Maybe they could have a "Lesbian Of The Year" contest ?
What a load of ****.
I'm sure that if a big greek man said he was a lesbian, I'd say "Sorry, do you mean you're a woman who has an attraction to other women, or are you from Lebos?" Cos it would be hard to tell the difference.

I love the word "lesbian". I wish there was a name like that for a gay man. "Lesbian" just sounds official or historical or gallant. "Gay" just sounds so... so... meh.
"I'm a lesbian" sounds so much better than "I'm gay."

Well.. On old term for a homosexual man was "Uranian". You could start calling yourself that. ;)

Yes, I would have to agree. "I'm a lesbian" is much hotter than "I am gay".
So let's see Lesbian comes from the Island of Lesbos.... Looking at the wikipedia entry for Lesbos, I see that Mount Olympos is the highest peak on the Island. So..... Olympians might work. What do you think?
