Eh... it seemed like a good topic for a separate thread. Feel free to post your random Halloween related posts here.

I shall start, with thanks to NA (on Twitter), with the Robot Pumpkin (http://blog.craftzine.com/) (originally sent to EH):

This has been the busiest Halloween season of my entire life. Best of all, even after a month or more of intense preparation for tonight's event ... There will still be a full week of Halloween left!

I don't have my costume even started for the 2 parties I'm going to on Day of the Dead (though it's been determined by the later party which, for the first time this year, has a distinct theme).

On Halloween night, I'm going to the WeHo Halloween Madness Carnival for the second year running ... so much more fun than I expected - - fantastic costumes (though mine won't be) and crazy atmosphere of fun. I'm looking forward to it.
:snap:

My first costume (of 3 this year) for tonight's mega event came from total disaster to perfection thanks to my sister's tireless efforts. Those same efforts, and those of her husband, also made tonight's shindig possible ... barely any of it could have been done without them.

Yet the unique contribution of my friend Autumn outshines everything else done. And yes, I'm up before sunrise because I'm just too excited to sleep.
:D

This will be the sixth annual Halloween Party at El Mio ... a yearly event that always has a costume theme. The first year was the Dead Man's Party, where you were supposed to come as someone deceased. Many LoT folk were in attendance. The party is legend.

The hostess got a little gun shy after that, and the guest list was pretty limited for the next few years, as we went thru costume themes of Comic Book Characters, Video Game Characters, the World of Tim Burton, and Anything British.

This year's predetermined costume theme is DISNEY, and we prevailed upon the hostess to open the guest list a little when her mother innocently suggested that, instead of a general Disney theme for the 1887 Victorian Mansion High on Hilltop ... we do the place up for Halloween as - - THE HAUNTED MANSION.

And that's what I've been working on for a month (and I'll be working to pay for it for many more months to come). Yesterday was the fantastic day we transformed the creeky old house to the world's newest Haunted Mansion, and it was as much fun as I'd hoped.

There's still so much to do ... so I'm gonna get going right now as the sun peaks over the horizon.

Still ... so as not to shock the poor hostess too much, I did not invite every living soul I know. My sincere apologies to anyone here who did not receive an invitation. I do not mean to be throwing this in anyone's face by this post ... but I'm so excited I'm just going to burst.

As it is, we're expecting some 60 - 70 people. Oh, so now I'm kinda scared as well.

Well, scary is appropriate I guess.

Happy Halloween Everyone.

Boy will be with the Others on Halloween. If I stay home I will be parking in the garage and ignoring the front door. I may have a guest over to entertain me, but that will be the extent of the activities.

If I don't stay home I will be at a friend's house, ignoring the front door and allowing him to entertain me.

So, any pictures from The Party? Joe and BJ said they had a good time.

And no, I didn't blow off The Party, just not on the guest list. I don't know why I feel all Maleficent about the whole thing, but, there you go. May your sixteen year old daughter prick her finger on a spinning wheel, and all that.

Yes, yes, my apologies to everyone whom I didn't invite. I promised my friend Val (who grew up in the El Mio house) I'd limit my personal invites to a dozen or so. (before she took off the U.K. for two weeks, came home sick, and thus throwing the party came down to me and my good friend Autumn - who painted all the Haunted Mansion artwork for the event ... though Val contributed the Tomb Sweet Tomb cross-stich, the last element to be completed, about a half hour into the party!)

As it was, we believe close to a hundred people attended ... or, as I like to assume .... 99 happy haunts.

And I'd also like to apologize for being somewhat less than a perfect host. Frankly, I was completely exhausted by the time the party started, and I really couldn't deal with the crush of people. So I stayed in the background for a lot of the event ... more of a ghost host really ... and then propped myself awake with booze and dope, and was completely useless.

The last guests left at 5am. I took a two hour nap, then started the many days of clean-up.

Hahahaha! I must be crazy. I hope everyone had a good time. And again, I'm sorry the party wasn't at my house ... or I would have invited far more friends. Too bad I don't live in the 1887 Victorian Mansion.

Oh, may I add - - FANTASTIC COSTUMES!!!!!

I'd like to especially gush over everyone who came dressed as a Haunted Mansion characters. (Especially you folks who faked me out and said you were coming in warmed-over Disney costumes you inadvertently wore to the first party.)

Tee Hee, there was ultimately appropriate Cadaverous Pallor as The Bride, and my friend Larry came as the HatBox Ghost. All the others were actually Haunted Mansion portraits, hahahaha. €uro as the Man in Boxers on a Barrel of Dynamite, my friend Stephanie as The Medusa, and BOTH Not Afraid and Morrigoon as Girl on a Tight Rope. Fantastic.

I expected many more doubles, but the only other sort of double was my other friend Lisa as Jolly Holiday Mary Poppins, and GusGus as British Mary Poppins (complete with delightful servings of spoonfuls of "sugar").

The best costume winner, and single best costume entrance I'd ever seen was NirvanaMan as Walt Disney's Frozen Head. Only to be topped as best costume entrance ever a mere hour later when my friend Mike arrived as ... The Main Street Electrical Parade. Hahahahahahah!

Can't wait to see the pictures. Oi, no time for that now. Another day of clean-up!

I'm so sorry I missed the group LoT Photo. It's a tradition at this party for the regular crowd to take a group shot on the stairs (and I was in this year's), but I love that LoT took this up as well ... real sorry I didnt' make it into both shots. Have you guys seen the "Halloween in the Time of Cholera (http://www.flickr.com/photos/opiummuseum/sets/72157607495777601/)" Flickr series? Someone is posting an image a day in October... all vintage photos from the 1930s, primarily. Many of them feature the kind of mask that really, really creep me out - molded, generic, terribly spooky-looking. I highly recommend.

Ironically, the best costumes were worn by the LoT crowd and by others who don't regularly attend (or have never before attended) this annual affair. I think the regulars have slipped a bit (though a handful were in wonderful costumes)

The two regulars known for outlandish "costumes" did not disappoint (Tron Master Control and Main St. Electrical Parade this year), but I have never really considered those costumes ... since they are discarded after 3 minutes and stand unoccupied for the rest of the evening ... this year becoming quite an annoyance imo.)

So I'd like to thank the LoT crowd for really spicing things up! I hope it's a shot in the arm. I don't mean to imply that other people weren't coitured wonderfully - that's not the case. In fact, I am so pleased the oversized efforts at decor were equally matched by fantastic costuming by the vast majority of the 99 guests.

To be fair, the theme WAS stacked in our favor. As was the trivia contest (having to do with deaths in the park). The LoT people SMOKED the non-LoT people.

I think most of us could have answered most of the questions without the multiple-guess options.

**********

ALSO: I would like to apologize if the posts of those of us would did attend are making those weren't so lucky feel snubbed. In retrospect, it isn't polite to discuss a non-public event in public. So I do sincerely apologize for anyone who feels slighted because of this.

(This is just my opinion - others may feel differently.)

Oh, me too.

I know we formed this group after Pancakery occurred. I know it inspired us to seek, as a group, to build a thicker skin in regards to small group gatherings.

But I also know from experience that still hurts to see photos of parties you weren't invited to, especially when it seems everyone else was there (even if that wasn't the case.)

Yeah, i know. But i hate to think we have to keep things a secret just because of that. I really regret the party was not at my house, and in my exclusive province to invite anyone I pleased. i was asked to limit my invitees. And by the way, I invited people who don't post on the LoT (but only a couple of them showed up).

As it was, I found the crowd overwhelming at times. So being that I wasn't the only one with the Power of Invite, it was incumbent upon me to be a little selective.

But yeah, I thought about the propriety of discussing this on the LoT. So there's a Halloween thread, and it seemed silly to keep this a secret. And I will say the same of other Halloween parties later this week that not everyone on the LoT has been invited to.

I don't mean to be hurting anyone's feelings ... but I'd also like to think we can be grown up about such things.

Speaking for myself, I'm glad you posted pics about it. Since I miss 99.9% (this year is running at 100%) of any LoT functions, I can at least enjoy them virtually.

I gotta say, if I could aspire to be invited to such a swanky halloween do, I would love it. But, I do not feel like I missed it thanks to all of you sharing the very cool pics (and props to everyone for the awesome costumes).

I don't mean to be hurting anyone's feelings ... but I'd also like to think we can be grown up about such things.

No, I know you don't mean to be. And since this group came into being due to a similar incident, I understand why people posted. Including me - I tweeted about costume-making, and linked to pictures on LiveJournal.

And everyone here was grown-up about it. But just because you're grown-up and polite, doesn't mean you can't be a bit sad when you're not included. You know? I think that's all Kevin and I were addressing.

You have the advantage of living up north. There were many people in L.A. I would have liked to invite. But the gal who's parents live there invited a bunch of her friends, and my co-host Autumn invited a bunch of her friends, and I have other non-LoT friends (omg) whom I also invited ... well, it's a big house, but only holds so many people.

I would have exploded if there were any more people there. Especially since I blew the catering staff budget on decor and alcohol, heheh. Once the early eatin's were out of the way ... it kinda fell to isaac to run that whole party, with assist from me. We were very busy. In hindsight, less pipe organ, more paid staff and caterers!

I can usually handle not being invited to a party with a shrug and a "meh."

However, a party where many of my friends, including my roommate, were in attendance, with the theme of the Haunted Mansion and the Gay high holidays, and an unreturned phone call from the host (because my roommate was positive this was an oversight and tried to convince me to attend), has put me in a snit.

I'm happy that the event was a success, I'm sorry you didn't enjoy it as much as you would have liked, and I've seen Sophie's Choice. I'll get over it.

I think it's pretty clear by how few of us were there that iSm didn't have a lot of leeway with his invite list. And most of the folks who came had been at the one 5 years ago.

Oddly enough, though the site was on a hilltop, cell reception there was spotty. I never checked my email or voicemail for 3 solid days. I apologize for that.

This might seem harsh on my part, and I'll fully admit that my feelings have been hurt from not being invited to certain things in the past, even though I understand that only so many people can fit in a place, etc. However, I do not make a point to voice my hurt feelings to the host(s), simply because I know how they feel, from having hosted my own parties where I couldn't invite everyone. The feeling of guilt is already there. There's no reason to wrap it in neon lights and make them feel worse.

And, I also wouldn't want the host(s) and party invitees to not share pictures and talk about the fun, because I still enjoy hearing about the good times, even when I wasn't there.

I haven't made much of a secret that my feelings were hurt a lot. On the one hand, I'm glad it was a splendid party that was enjoyed by all who attended. On the other hand, it also feels like so many LoT folks were invited that it was a de facto LoT swanking - only there were just a very few local "regulars" who were not invited. I'm trying to be grown up about it and recognize that much of my emotional response stems from facing down my first set of birthday/winter holidays as a transplant - without my mommy - and I'm already feeling very lonely. But, it still feels an awful lot like deliberate exclusion. I'm trying to control those feelings, but I'm generally less successful than I'd like.

Prudence, I have to tell you I felt it was in part incumbent upon me to invite you and your very nice bf as a welcoming gesture. I'm glad you guys live here, I look forward to seeing you at many events and perhaps becoming friends.

BUT ... i could not see how I could invite you while at the same time not being able to invite a good many people I have friendships with, feel true affection for, and have spent a whole lot more time with developing those friendships and that affection.

In the end, I decided such a friendly gesture could not be managed without hurting other people's feelings who thus would have been excluded on the basis that they did not just move to Los Angeles.

As Morrigoon pointed out, deference was given to people who have attended this event in the past (albeit only once) and then, yes, to people I feel particularly close to. There had to be some kind of fuzzy cut-off line. A few of the LoT folk I invited were unable to make it.

If I did not invite you, it most certainly doesn't mean I don't like you. But I hope you know whether or not we hang out together or have a deepish connection. Since the guest list was limited, those are the people I invited.

I can only hope such choices become even harder for me in the future, because I have become closer to more and more of my friends. I should only have such problems!

In the meanwhile, my regrets for any slights, or hurt feelings. I know emotions are what they are, and they sometimes sting. My sorry.

Some times you have to make your own "in" crowd. I was invited to this one so maybe my opinion doesn't count, but I much prefer the public acknowledgment of an event than to have it be covered up.

The unfortunate reality is that whether by restricted guest list, economics, geography, or the physics of time and space, we're all going to miss out on stuff. I love hearing about what everyone does - unless it's staying home a moping. Make your own fun and people will want to join you.

On the other hand, it also feels like so many LoT folks were invited that it was a de facto LoT swanking - only there were just a very few local "regulars" who were not invited. It was not a swanking. Swankings are posted and open to anyone. This was a private party. There were a lot of locals that weren't invited. I can write a nice long list if you like, a lot longer than the list of invited, I'd wager.

I was saddened to find out who wasn't invited, and there were plenty of swankers that came to mind as missing. It would have been cool to have everyone there, but it was beyond our control.

I didn't post about the lovely time I had because I thought people would react poorly. Guess I was right. Kind of a bummer really, since I'd love to participate in the post-event discussions.

I don't get invited to stuff sometimes. More often than some would expect. Such is the life of a large circle of friends. I don't post complaints, either.

LSPoorEeyorick

It's not easy to be on the outside looking in, but the reality of the matter is that our houses have limited space, and if someone is not inviting me (and yes, as with most of us, it has happened a fair bit) it is probably a matter of not being as close to that person as others are. Inevitably, the guests that a host invites are the people who the host knows best. In my experience, it's not as much an issue of 'popularity' as it is about personal connections. Friendship doesn't happen like magic. There are a lot of things that go into it - time, energy, patience, flexibility... They say relationships take work, and friendship-relationships are no different.

So, JWBear, I haven't talked to you much outside of the board, but I do really enjoy your posts and I'd be happy to have you join me at any gatherings we host or outings we take. I've posted some of them here on the board, and you've never joined me, so I've assumed you didn't care to. But I will be sure to extend a direct invite next time!

To add on to that - I find that invite-only parties are the exception and not the rule with this group. Otherwise I wouldn't have gotten to know any of you, really. Because I've never considered myself the popular type, and I don't actually relish the position of "looking-down-upon" that is sometimes implied by a "popular" descriptor. But I do relish friendships. So I just kept showing up to open events until I got to know people better. And I'm still getting to know people better, and that makes me happy.

Sometimes I'm invited to a party. Sometimes I didn't even know there was a party. That doesn't make me feel like I'm being snubbed or my friends are dissing me. I don't need to be invited to every event, nor do I need to attend all of them. Lord knows everyone would be sick of me if I did.

As for this particular Halloween party, the owners of the house are a bit cautious when hosting large groups & this one was quite big. I spent more time outside the house than inside simply cause it was too crowded.

It was a fun party but there was no way everyone could attend. Since this was party thrown by Val in her family's house, it was her party, not iSm's. He helped decorate & arrange things but it wasn't up to him to create the guest list. Val didn't want too many unfamiliar faces like the original party in 2003.

This was not some sort of official LoT 'swanking'.
Those are posted on LoT, in public, not through Evite, in private.

Anyway, it was just a party. Not the first, nor the last. Didn't see you this time ? Maybe next time.

Just don't like the rubbing in of those who went and the pictures. Kinda like i have this and you don't kinda way back in school being taunted.

I think I've kind of been trying to make a point that EVERYONE gets left out sometimes, though, and we all kind of have to roll with it, because in big groups, not everyone is connecting with each other in exactly the same level. And that's OK, and to be expected.

And to illustrate: I felt like I was missing out on your fun Haunt trips, after seeing pictures on the board. But I was glad you all had fun, and I never brought it up with you because I didn't know you as well, and why would I spoil the good times you had with your closer friends? And now I am very glad that I know the two of you better now and I'm glad to be able to spend time with you on Friday! :)

innerSpaceman

Actually, it was surprising how little Val had to do with it this time. She was out of the country till a few days before the shindig and was out sick when she finally did come home (but she finally got to visit Euro Disney ... and during Halloween no less!)

Anyway, her parents are way more cool about big parties than she is ... otherwise the hundred person guest list would have also been out of the question.

Last time there were problems from friends inviting friends inviting friends, and before you knew it there were people there whom nobody knew. Val did not take kindly to that.

So I only invited people I trust implicitly.

Also, it just so happens that Isaac and I made up from our most serious falling out, a month earlier than I was going to attempt it ... because I could not imagine having a Haunted Mansion party without him. I'm glad of it. Isaac's a great guy and I will always love him.

Heheh, more than a few of the guests who didn't know him thought he was paid staff ... what with his Jazz Kitchen costume and running the party almost single-handedly. He did not do that to put himself back in my good graces ... but it went a long way toward doing just that.

I was pretty frelling exhausted by the time the party started, and that's why I didn't have as good a time as I might have. Pfft, for the first couple of hours, I couldn't stand to be around that many people and I just stayed outside and got quietly drunk. Heheh.

Anyways, I have a deep appreciation for anyone who helped out with this party, or the set-up, or the aftermath. It was a huge undertaking, and I definitely bit off more than I could chew.

Not that anything went terribly wrong. It seemed to me as if everyone were having a good time. For that, and for all the assistance from many corners, I am very grateful.

As for pictures and recaps, where is the line drawn then? Should people never post pictures when they hang out with friends anywhere, because not everyone was invited?

I've seen plenty of photos on here of concerts, theme parks, and other outings to which I was never invited. For example, no one called me and asked me to go to Haunt this Friday. So, should I complain if photos are posted and you all talk about your great time?

(And, honestly, I do hope to see the pictures and stories, because I haven't been to Haunt in years, and I'd really love to see what's new. And, I also take joy in seeing my friends having a great time, even if I'm not there.)

So... I ask this:

Should no one ever openly speak of an event or outing that not all of us are invited to?

Or, should we just not look at photos/posts that upset us for whatever personal reason we have?

Sorry, but I will continue to post photos and openly discuss my adventures. And, since this isn't school, and we're adults, I'm obviously not doing it to taunt anyone. It's just like sending a postcard from a vacation. Does it mean the vacationers are only doing to rub it in, or does it mean they're having such a great time and want to share it with those they wish were there?

Now, please pardon me whilst I go spend time with my husband. Maybe we'll even watch a porn tonight. And, just so we don't offend anyone, you're ALL welcome to join us. PM me for the address. However, it's BYOL (bring-your-own-lube). We'll post photos tomorrow. ;)

Everyone, please don't think I'm feeling hurt or slighted, I'm not. I got over that kind of thing years ago. But I can understand and empathize with those who do. It can be hard to think you are part of "the crowd", only to find out you are only hanging on at the fringes. Goddess knows, I've been there!

I perfectly understand Steve's position. But at the same time I understand the hurt of those who weren't invited. And (if I may be very blunt amongst friends) starting a thread about the party, under the circumstances, wasn't the most tactful thing to do. But I know it wasn't done with malice.

This is a Miscellaneous Halloween thread for everyone to post about any and all Halloween adventures they may have, whether with Swankers or Sisters-in-Law.

I probably wouldn't have posted about the party at all, but the night before ... when we finally transformed the El Mio House into The Haunted Mansion ... I was just bursting with excitement. And my enthusiasm got the better of my cautious judgment.

I referred to it earlier, but I always figured that because this group started out as a result of the fallout of someone talking about a small group party on a large group board, we all planned to... sort of... acknowledge and accept the fact that sometimes we would not be able to invite everyone, and sometimes we would not be invited, and despite possibly feeling sad (on both occasions) we'd handle it as politely as possible - on both sides of the equation.

No board split, no YAGE. Just slightly bruised feelings.

Steve, the party looked fantastic, and I'm glad a few people missed me. The unreturned phone call is what got under my skin, sorry you had no phone service for 3 (!) days. That would make me crazy, what with guests coming from all over. I'm sorry your mom is ill.

Isaac, I had no idea that Steve was not, in fact, the host. If they're needed, pass my apologies on to Val for making that assumption.

Looking at the pictures, I was remiss in not adding CP's fabulous Bride to the tie. FP and DP's are amazing Yipp-Yipps! Audra's Shag Girl is the hippest, Kevy's Passhole is dead-on, and, after all these years, I've finally gotten to see GD's Woody. Impressive. LSPiggy and Kermit the Tom are adorable, as is Susan's Drunky Mary Poppins! iSm, I envy your many fine suits, all quite dapper, and Isaac, well, what better name for a bartender than Isaac? Who have I left out? Oh yeah, my roommate and his boyfriend.

They suck.

But their costumes are cute. ;)

innerSpaceman
10-29-2008, 06:50 AM
Well, though Isaac keeps saying it ... Val was not the host. She usually is the hostess of this party ... but was not this year. She took a well-deserved break.

That said ... the party is at her parent's house ... and she has certain say-so about things. Most years that's "no outside people." This year we persuaded her the party had to be bigger and got her ok to invite a few non-regulars.

Then she left the country  - - and we did LOTS of things that would not have been ok with her, but were totally cool with her parents.

Still - - though Autumn and I were completely in charge of this year's party, we made a conscious decision to not have more than a hundred people. I hope that's ok with everyone. And so the guest list was limited.

I just don't want to foist that decision on Val and deflect from me when it's not true.

(And there's nothing better that spotty cell service when you're working desperately around the clock to put together an event of this scale. No interruptions or flash pictures, pleease.)

Betty
10-29-2008, 06:55 AM
Yeah, i know. But i hate to think we have to keep things a secret just because of that. I really regret the party was not at my house, and in my exclusive province to invite anyone I pleased. i was asked to limit my invitees. ...

I don't mean to be hurting anyone's feelings ... but I'd also like to think we can be grown up about such things.

See - this lack of invite just proved you really don't like me! I *knew* it! :p

I think I might stalk you for awhile on the board until you decide you like me or I totally piss you off.

Yeah, Bryan's Captain EO costume was awesome. He said he used TicTac boxes for the jacket.

innerSpaceman
10-29-2008, 09:35 AM
Bryan was another one who kept telling me his costume was going to be lame and it wouldn't come together ... and his Captain EO was astounding.

We had to invent categories on the fly for best costumes, so we awarded him Best Sound, even though his was among the coolest visually. He had a MichaelJackson-blaring sound system incorporated into his costume though. And since sound figured into more than one outfit, we gave him the nod for this .... but I regret I was a little too drunk to remember to include Ghoulish Delight in the running. He also had a fantastic-looking costume, but with a great sound element - - the crotch-level pull string that triggered risque sayings for Porn Star Woody.

I was also tempted to have a run-off for Hottest Guy between B.J.'s Prince Eric and Bryan Lee's Captain EO, but I thought better of it at the last minute and chickened out.

Pru sorry to hear you felt left out and your feelings hurt. I am wasn't invited either. But no way would i have been able to make it. Just don't like the rubbing in of those who went and the pictures. Kinda like i have this and you don't kinda way back in school being taunted. But don't let that stop you from future events where you are invited to. Most events i can't make due to work and i feel very left out that events happen regularly on Fri and Sat nights when i might be working.
To be fair, the photos that were posted in the thread were specifically of costumes, which as far as I can tell, are exactly the sort of thing that should go in this thread. I certainly didn't post them to rub anything in anyone's faces. I very specifically did not post photos just of the decorating or party "events" for that reason. But if we can't post photos of our Halloween costumes, then what's the point of having a Halloween thread?

There are events going on this weekend, not everyone is invited to all of them, and it'd be nigh impossible for anyone who is to make it to all of them. I'd love to see pics of the stuff I'm not invited/can't make it to. I hope folks won't be shy in sharing.

Hahaha, I wanted to go as a combo of ALL dead rock stars (think Ethel Mertz as the GeishaAmerianIndian), but I didn't know how to pull it off while making them each recognizable.

And I had half a dozen good ideas, but found it impossible to put any of them together in a scant few days. Some required engineering, others very elaborate make-up, still others great luck or, ycch, sewing construction. All of these things are beyond me at the best of times ... but in my own party recovery stage, completely impossible.

So let's hope CM and I are at least different dead rockers ... and we can jam in heaven - - or hell as the case may be.

So I submitted photos from last weekend's Mansion bash to two of my favorite blogs (Pop Candy and BoingBoing) - and all of the Muppet costumes were posted to Pop Candy this morning! She's more a fan of Henson than Disney, I guess.

But BoingBoing is nuts about Haunted Mansion so I bet if they post, they'll note the Mansion-specific ones... and maybe frozen Walt.

I love Tina Fey's comment that was something like "not since Sling Blade has there been a voice anyone can do". So true.
I do it all the time.

Hopefully there will be no rain tonight. A night at Knott's Soggy Farm would be kinda sad. Or it could turn out to be a lot of fun...

Question:
I leave WeHo at 3pm and need to get to Knott's at 4:30. Do you think it's possible?

That's cutting it kinda close. but should be doable. I'm thinking your best bet would be taking the 110->91.

Hahaha, Cousin I.T.. is hysterical.

Funny also in that I was originally planning to be Cousin IT as part of a group Addams Family Thing we were initially planning for the WeHo Ween Carnival this year. Never happened.

But I will be heading to WeHo soon after Gemini Cricket leaves there!

So, I didn't take any photos at my Haunted Mansion Halloween Party last week ... but others sure did.

Thanks everyone for that.

Lots of People not on the LoT also took photos ... and those are the ones mostly featured in my two Live Journal entries (really photo stories) about the Party.

So, if you're up for more photos of the Haunted Mansion Party ....

for your visual delightedness ....

To the consternation of the people who installed it at great effort, it was in our "Stretch Room," just above the paintings - hanging in that very narrow stairway that ascends to the attic.

We had a strobe light on it to draw some attention, but it was indeed one of the many really subtle touches that I loved so well. The installers kept bugging me to hang it lower --- but they are muggles, and I insisted that guests needed to be looking UP at the hanging skeleton in the Stretch Room.

But I DID see the skeleton in the cupula (is it a cupula?) that was visible from outside. Tried to take a picture but was unsuccessful. Tres cool!

Ours had its usual half-assed (downgraded to quarter-assed this year I think) costume contest in the lunch room. Mini pies were supplanted with large cupcakes. Truly thrilling.

No costume contest for us this year.

Instead we had a lets see who can waste the most office supplies I mean a mask making contest for each department using only things found in the office.

How is it even w/ a $23.9 billion loss this past quarter, Wachovia has more money & spirit to invest in holiday cheer than other companies ?

Just wonderin.......

BTW: $18 billion of that loss came from the bad loans when Wachovia merged w/ Golden West.

I was wondering what happened to her face ... when I realized, oh ... that's from the inside.

You wascaly wabbit.

So, when sneaking up to the attic ... did you notice how the last flight of stairs is still charred from the fire? It's a creepy touch.

* * * * *

The West Hollywood Halloween Carnaval was less fun than last year. Way more crowded (with the holiday falling on a Friday night) and way fewer fantastic costumes.

Sorry I got no pictures, but tops was a drag queen duo of Ariel and Ursula. Wizard of Oz was a common theme, with a very clever Tornado costume, Glinda with a falling house, a couple of random Tin Men, and about 8 or 9 Dorothys.

I'm glad I dropped my plans to come as Heath Ledger to tonight's Died Young party ... there were no less that 36 of Ledger's Jokers last night. Ugh.

For some reason, the runner up was Charlie Brown - roughly five of them.

2 sets of Gilligans Island, lots of leftover Teletubbys costumes, some clever Mars Attacks Martians, and a hot gay Swat Team. Best groups were the Taco Party and the Circus Train.

Yeah, what? Sorry ... maybe my friend got photos and I'll post them later if so. She's on the way to San Francisco this morning, so it might be awhile. Her boyfriend, my pal Greg, was fantastic again this year as a mummy. He does incredible make-up and such, and stole the show this year since there was far less competition. (Last year he was a completely credible and creepy Nosferatu .... it's such a pleasure going to this event with someone who rates in the big leagues of costumes and becomes a Photo-Op Celebrity.)

Alright ... sigh ... more Halloween tonight.

Dying to see the pics, people!
(Alas, I didn't take any pics at the event where I was at last night owing to having left my camera's chip in my computer) Here's what I wore on Halloween:

Hooray for Costume Changes.

Yes, pics please of Saturday's Festivities - - though I don't think there were any shots of my Jimmie Hendrix's Ghost (and perhaps 1 of my explorer, which everyone presumed to be David Livingston).

But there were so many standouts. LSPoorEeyorick and Tom as the cast of Sweeney Todd. Not Afraid AND Kevy Baby as JonBenet Ramsey (the former with no less than 3 Beauty Pageant costume changes, the latter with disturbing beard and frilly pantaloons) ... Cadaverous Pallor brillant as Carrie White dripping in pig's blood ... €uroMeinke with perfect historical timing as Laika the space-faring dog.

So many others. Where is the photographic proof???

Not Afraid AND Kevy Baby as JonBenet Ramsey...And there was a THIRD JBR as well: one of the non-lot persons. She was wearing a black or dark-blue with white polka-dots dress as well as a tiara (and various asundry acrutraments).

BTW: I have to give a HUGE shout-out to Disneyphile and Susan for making my outfit. Once I uttered what I was thinking about doing, they jumped into it immediately and didn't let me back out. I think they had a little too much fun making the outfit. Also, I know DP worked on Susan's Anissa Jones (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anissa_Jones) outfit as well (possibly doing it in its entirety: I am not sure).

Where is the photographic proof???Do you REALLY want to experience me again?
