The deposit for the two adjoining cabins in Yosemite will be due at the end of this month (which gives me time to apply the amount to my credit card before the rental agency charges me).

So, if you need to back out, now is the time to do it. If you are confirmed, you'll need to send me a check in the next few weeks.

First things first:

Who is confirmed?

Ken and Teresa
The LashPair
John and Bill
Chris and Lisa
Kevin and Susan
Jesse and Heather
Donna
Wendybeth, Eric and Toribear

Once I have confirmations from everyone, the amount remaining will look something like this:

Assuming that we continue to have 16 people, the amount per person is 173.44. If you have given me your deposit, subtract $32.95 for a total due of $140.49 pp.

So, please confirm by February 8th that you will be attending.

Not that I want anyone to back out ....

but think of me as the hungry alligator with jaws agape in the swamp below the treacherous, swinging rope bridge of financial peril ... awaiting any chance to sleep comfortably indoors.

Otherwise, SuPeR K! and I will be camped out in Yosemite Valley - - and you are all invited to a campsite weenie roast one evening as our guests.

I'm a confirmed bailer. :(

Yes, I suck. I just did my taxes and let's just say that it's going to take a miracle for me to pay the state. Forget the Cabin and forget Cambria in there too.

I will not accept a refund on my deposit so forget about that.

No dogs allowed on the property - although there's a part of me that wants to see if we can smuggle him in. Not sure we can manage that without putting everyone is jeopardy (and we don't have Brad there to pretend he has Touretts).

Ha! I am real, you've seen pics of me at other DL related events. I'm simply snubbing you, very rudely! ;) I'm afraid I won't be able to keep up with all the one-liners.

Are the PNW only doing Yosemite, no further travels south? I'm going to try to maybe make Cambria, failing that it will be a weekend on someone's couch and a day at DL.

Hmm, should I change my name to snowbot?

~MS~
02-04-2009, 12:38 PM
Being 100 percent serious here....if 'you' are a snore like a buzz saw person, you should post it here, NA can look at the list and possibly put the worst offenders in the Little Scenic half of the cabin so that the non snore folks can have a good night sleep and the snore folk can bust out ear plugs and call it a good deed!

Or the flip side

if the snore crew outnumber the I need my quiet to sleep then it's a simple flip to put the non snore in the little scenic so they can close the door to the big cabin and get more peace...

Kevy Baby

Based on a mojo comment received I'm told my lowercase bears comment above is a Wicked reference.

I've never seen the play, nor read the book. All I know about it is that it is an explanation of why the Wicked Witch in Wizard of the Oz is the way she is. Or something like that.

So if it was a reference, it was unintentional. Just wanted to set the record straight.

I've seen the show twice, and read the book twice, and I'm not familiar with any reference to lowercase bears. So I think your record was straight to begin with.

On the other hand, as I took the reference, it was decidedly non-straight.

in Wicked, there are two types of animals (The primary one in the book is Dr. Dillamond who is a Goat, but let's use bears as an example) there are:
bears (lowercase) - these are bears who are just 'dumb' animals.
and
Bears (Uppercase) = these are intelligent Bears who can talk and reason with other humans/witches/beings etc.

It is a terrible thing to kill an Animal as opposed to an animal. Let alone eat one... (not that you'd eat a lowercase bear...)

You guys are KILLING me!!! The Wii and the board games sound like such fun!! That is what I love about heading up to the mountains/secluded places such as that. There comes a time when, unless you want to be outside in the pitch black {and I can only do that for so long} that you come in and want to do something besides read. Or talk.

Don't forget a deck of cards, always fun.

AND does anyone have a large paper tablet type thing {or white board?} to do that Win Lose or Draw game? I forget what it is called but that is what it is fashioned after.

That Wii sounds like such fun. I think that it would be hilarious to get the gang together to play.

You guys have a helluva great time! I haven't said, but, I was dealing with not going with you guys because I had a room reserved for the end of the month, our anniversary. Unfortunately, we've had to cancel. It is soooo painful to cancel vacation reservations....the worst when it is to Yosemite.

Heheh.

It's not sacrilege or anything, just not for me. I know we're staying in a cabin and it's not quite swank camp ... but to the extent possible, I want to feel like I'm getting away from the modern world and reconnecting for my one puny week of the live-long year to blissful nature.

So electronic devices are anathema to me in such situations. I'm glad I won't have cell phone reception. I'm glad I won't hear news of the outside world, or have the internet.

I'm not going to go all Amish on you, but I will look askance at anyone who turns on a tv in the cabin. I understand wii, and it's fun, and games are cool in a cabin. But i'll be sticking to hangman and twister .... and, 'natch, spin the bottle.

Alex
03-19-2009, 08:13 AM
If you're sleeping in a structure that has its own modern plumbing then I say it doesn't really matter any more whether you watch TV or play video games. You're no more "in the woods" than if you were staying at the Best Western just outside the park entrance.

Just my (irrelevant since I won't be there) curmudgeonly view.

innerSpaceman
03-19-2009, 09:34 AM
Except it seems to me that's like saying as long as I'm in my hotel room across the Seine from the Louvre, I'm no more in Paris than if I were staying in Berlin.

Alex
03-19-2009, 09:56 AM
I suppose it would be, but that's not what I'm saying.

I'm saying that if you're in a hotel in Paris across the from the Louvre I don't think that would create any barriers to watching TV either. Or playing Wii if it were in the room.

I agree that watching TV while camping is contradictory because there is a point to camping that TV conflicts with (in my opinion). That same contradiction doesn't exist when you are essentially staying in a hotel, no matter how close it is to the woods.

But then I consider air mattresses to be contradictory to the purpose of going camping so what the heck do I know. It just seems to me that drawing the line at Wii is a weird place to draw a line once you're already staying in a fully modern house with a dozen other people. Once it's dark out it won't be much functionality different than if you were all at a party in Irvine.

innerSpaceman
03-19-2009, 10:25 AM
The difference is it's a house purposely in the middle of nowhere. I wouldn't be there at all if it were a house in the middle of Irvine.

That said, I won't make any kind of fuss over wii, and will likely take a turn or two myself. The wii is electronic, but it doesn't bring in the outside world. Turn on the television, and I would have a problem. But since the same device is used in each instance, my personal line is wiggly.

But there's modern and then there's modern. It might seem like pretend roughing it to go without computers, smart phones and video games ... and just make do with early 20th century rustic stuff like indoor plumbing and kitchens.

I'm fine with "theme" if I don't have the real thing.

.

Alex
03-19-2009, 10:46 AM
If Irvine LoTers were throwing a big party you wouldn't go? Now you've hurt their feelings.

Anyway, it is all good. Just realized the short way of saying what I meant (but why say it quickly if I can say it with 5400 words):

Go ahead an play Wii, it isn't like you're camping.

innerSpaceman
03-19-2009, 11:15 AM
I might, I'd just rather play naked twister.

If I were grabbing a snack in my Paris hotel room, I'd still rather eat quiche than a hot dog.

So at the cabin in the words, I want to play board games at night. It's just to apply the ambience to all aspects.

Alex

Hey, it's an imrpovement.

I'm not saying "stupid people, why go to Yosemite if you aren't going to sleep naked in the dirt and be awoken by bears tearing you apart in search of the bologna slice you accidentally fell asleep on."

And iSm isn't saying "bah! the whole thing is ruined and a waste of time because we aren't staying in the third house from the left that has the perfect view of the second tallest tree which is spiritually the most important one and if you can't see it within forty seconds of awakening then why the hell even bother going! Dibs on the upper bunk!"

Debating why exactly it is ok to play Wii seems like a softening of temperaments.

I don't play Wii. I just don't want to get interesting it in, have to spend money on a game that will then either sit on the TV shelf getting dusty OR will suck away any free time I have that I could be doing other things I enjoy and find more fulfilling. It is sort of the same reasoning of why I don't want TV. I simply don't want yet another thing that I have to do that takes away from the other stuff I want to be doing. As it is, I STILL don't have enough time to complete the art projects I want to complete. I have the internet as my guilty distraction. I don't need another one.

And, when I'm in Yosemite, I want to spend time talking with people F2F - yest, we spend all year talking on LoT but I want quality F2F time, damnit. I just don't see playing with an electronic game as quality F2F time.

Did I out-curmudgeon anyone yet?

OMG, THAT"S A CHAIR ?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

Poor bear.:(

You no like? It used to be in the White House:

Made from two grizzly bears captured by Seth [Kinman]. The four legs and claws were those of a huge grizzly and the back and sides ornamented with immense claws. The seat was soft and exceedingly comfortable, but the great feature of the chair was that, by touching a cord, the head of the monster grizzly bear with jaws extended, would dart out in front from under the seat, snapping and gnashing its teeth as natural as life. This chair Seth presented to [President] Johnson, September 8, 1865.

Who knows. As near as I can figure, it was sold off sometime in the late 1890s, early 1900s. It can be seen in a picture taken in the WH library (currently the Yellow Oval Room) in the early 1890s. After that, it disappears.

Well, KB- I think it only right that you decide what manner of depilatory is to be used. Just so you know, waxing lasts longer.

So, who is bring the wax to Yosemite so Kevy can get shorn from neck to crack? We are.

I've already ordered a 5-gallon bucket of strawberry-flavored wax, and having it shipped directly to the cabin.

So, the real question here is who is going to do the deed?

[Stoat says] Kevy, we doth think you protest too much. We know you want to do the whole Yosemite gig dressed as a French Maid, you are in the best of hands to have a complete depliliatory (sans Facial hair - that's off limits) to make all of your natural assests shine, glean and plump as they ought. Don't be shy, be ....ummm....primed.

Can I interrupt the frilly friviolity for a moment to ask/confirm if someone is able to tranport Keith back to L.A. on Friday?

It's time for me to start putting together the pieces of this odyssey, and I want to find out whether I'm going to San Francisco or not on the way to Yosemite.

Thanks.

Oh, and if Kevy is dressing as a french maid all week, who is bringing the protective goggles??

This may be silly for me to ask, but you and the Lashes are arriving from San Francisco? Um, when are you traveling???

I ask because, as you might surmise from the post above, Super K! and I are considering detouring to SF for Easter Sunday for the annual Big Wheel Race. Will the three of you be in town that day?!?!?

oh, ok ... well, I will take the liberty of answering for the celebrated Mr. K. .... he'll gladly take a late ride Friday. He doesn't need to be back in Vegas till late Saturday.

ok, so looks like we're adding San Francisco. If the Snowlashes are going to be there Sunday, that's BONUS BONUS WIN BONUS.

Now, where can I get a couple of inexpensive Big Wheels by next week?

ETA: But I'm not crazy. The official schedule (http://users.tpg.com.au/adslgroh/2009/LAPADIGI.htm) starts at Yosemite.

Where's the schedule for Hawaii to Just-Before-Yosemite? I think it's actually harder to keep track of the Lashmovements with 20 threads on the subject than it would be with a normal one or two.

Actually the Lashpair leave SF on Thursday for Spokane, then on Saturday fly into Sacramento for 48 hours crammed with plans ranging from a flyby visit to see the state capitol to going back into the city to see Wicked that evening to a jaunt up to San Jose to tour the Winchester Mystery House then back to devour a deep fried turkey with amazing sides for Easter Dinner, then on Monday they'll tour the Jelly Belly factory and await Snowflakes arrival to carry them on further south to the Yosemite swanking.

Thanks, um, I think. After reading that 3 times, I have no idea where the Lashpair will be on Sunday.

Saturday - Sacramento for 48 hours.
This implies Sacramento Saturday and Sunday, yes???

Back into the City "that evening" for Wicked.
Saturday evening?

A jaunt "up" to San Jose then back for Easter Dinner.
Back to Sacramento?

I'm so very confused.

Ok, whatever. So, Snowflake, whatcha doin' on Easter Sunday???

Hahaha, I love how the Lashpair, in the space of 30 threads, did not deign to post their Nor Cal schedule, and it turns out so many of us SoCalers are in NorCal during the span they will be.

The only thing I can't determine is whether the NorCal Schedule Mystery is more annoying than the Vast Pink Block Out on the SoCal Schedule.;)

~MS~

Ok I'll type it out more detailed

on Saturday, April 11 the lashpair arrive at the Sac International airport at lunch time, where they will be picked up and taken to the nearest In and Out burger to indulge Bears burning desire to attempt a 6x6. After consuming as much artery clogging goodness as is possible, in route back to Suisun City we will take the scenic route and drive by the capitol building, no tour of same is planned, more like stop hop out take photos, hop back in the vehicle and head west.

We'll arrive at home in time to get things out of the car and organized, eat a bite of dinner for those interested then head back into SF to the theater for Wicked.

Easter Sunday - get up, enjoy watching Miss B hunt eggs and discover the treasures left by the EB, breakfast on bacon and sourdough pancakes with Maple syrup. Head to San Jose (a 90 minute drive in good traffic) to take the pair to Winchester Mystery House...time line TBD on Easter morning. After they have experienced the fun of Miss Sarahs abode and grounds we will return to Suisun City for an Easter dinner of deep fried turkey and assorted side dishes.

Monday morning a trip to the Jelly Belly factory tour concludes the 48 hours of whirlwind fun times as Snowflake will meet us and provide transportation and fun to the pair as they head south to Camp Swank at Yosemite.
