And isn't it only the middle armrests that flip up? I suppose it could vary by airline, but I don't recall ever being on a plane where the aisle armrest was movable.

Christmas Decoration Fail
A zealous Christmas decorator caused a storm of trouble with his decorations after police and passersby thought a dummy that was left clinging to his roof with a ladder on the ground below, was a real man struggling for help.

Yeah, it's funny until somebody hangs themselves outdoors around Halloween and the body is ignored for a few days while everybody assumes it is a decoration.
(Well, ok, that is still funny, but not the kind you laugh about on the evening news.)
lashbear
12-10-2009, 04:37 PM
The word "TREK" looks photoshopped.
...and I think the dummy display is hilarious. Are people dumb enough not to realise that it's not moving, kicking or screaming for help ? "Oh, maybe he passed out and he's locked there by the amazing power of his finger-muscles".
That's just how you count using Roman numerals in Spanish.
One, two, three, four, five, trek.
"Oh, maybe he passed out and he's locked there by the amazing power of his finger-muscles".
I'm sure most people were not fooled by it. But I can easily see it causing someone driving by to come to a rapid halt and getting out of the car to help before figuring it out. Perhaps calling 911 on the way.
And there have been several prominent stories here in the last few years of bodies being ignored because people assumed they were dummies (in a recent one an old woman had a heart attack sitting out on her balcony. Died leaning against her railing. She was there a couple days.)

I don't think so: Tiger was much older than that when ToT opened.
Oh... you weren't talking about the guy in the red shirt in the front row?
No, I don't think it is real because you aren't dropping when the picture is taken: you are (relatively) still (maybe some shaking, but nothing that would cause what is in the picture.
Also, someone would have had to seriously plan a serious visual hoodwink of the load operator on the ride (having a fake seatbelt with yellow strap that the rider would "tug" on). Not that it couldn't be done - it would just require prior planning.
It's been a long time but isn't the ride photo for ToT before the first drop? Easy enough to avoid the seatbelt if the CM isn't paying attention but if the photo is real and my memory of where the photo is taken is correct then he must be hanging from something above.

As for the seatbelt, all you have to do is pull the seatbelt all the way out, connect it, then hold the slack in your hand or tuck it under your leg so that the belt looks like it's across your lap. Tug the yellow tag, then once the ride is moving, slip out.

Also, the only ones who look like they are actually experiencing any kind of falling are the three dorks in the back. The Jaws older guy looks too calm and the people in the front look like they're having a conversation. The kid's holding his ears because of the screaming. I never have seen anyone put their hands over their ears during the fall. They're usually hands up, posing or grasping their armrests... I can't see a kid that age doing a pose during the pic... (But I could be wrong.) This picture was possibly taken by a CM because it looks like all of the seats are taken, well, one could be vacant... Also, a lady is holding her handbag. Don't they have Star Tours rules at ToT to store everything first under your seats? (Not sure, I've never carried something on ToT,) The guy in "the air" is most likely hanging from one of the overhead beams, caging etc.
Gemini Cricket
05-21-2010, 05:48 PM
Also, the guy next to the bearded guy is out of his seat. If he was not buckled in as well wouldn't he be flying up in the air like the other guy?
Gemini Cricket
05-21-2010, 05:55 PM
Also (you can tell that I'm obsessed with this pic) the injuries you would sustain by not being buckled would most likely be epic, no? Also, if this did happen, wouldn't it have been all over MC or the news back in September (when this supposedly occurred)? Clearly there would be questions about the safety of ToT. If this did happen, I can't see any sane DCA exec not closing the ride down until they could investigate what happened.

I can't see a kid that age doing a pose during the pic... (But I could be wrong.)That is a VERY common thing kids who are uncomfortable do. When Theo's in his crib and upset, that's exactly what he does with his hands.

Phone Fail (http://news.cincinnati.com/article/20100930/SPT02/100930002/1062/SPT/Kroger-pulls-Chad-cereal)That actually happened with one of our Medicare Advantage clients: they listed a particular number as an 800 number when it should have been an 866 number. Naturally, the 800 number was a phone sex line like the one in the article.
I'm not sure I see the failure. Especially if the two visible are actually the 3rd and 4th on the string. At first I thought you were responding SM's post and was thoroughly confused.
It is a rule that any incorrectly listed phone number will end up being a sex line of some sort. Happened to us with a phone number listed on a couple pages back at WaMu.

Which makes one wonder, exactly how many sex lines are out there?
Are they like domain squatters? Do they purchase large blocks of toll-free numbers and make money from wrong numbers and/or companies willing to purchase the number from them for one reason or another?

For those who haven't heard the news, Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak (http://abcnews.go.com/International/egypt-mubarak-steps-president-cairo-erupts-joy/story?id=12891572)stepped down this morning. I heard it on KNX 1070 (local news radio station) on my way into work at around 8:30 ish. Later, on the same station, they played an obviously taped report from Charles Osgood at around 8:50ish talking about "since Mobarack didn't step down, what will today be like in Egypt?"
Somebody at the station needs to be listening what is going out on the airwaves!

In response to your "Fiberglass/Drywall; what's the difference?"
Drywall screws are frequently used in woodworking projects - with their smaller and non-tapered shafts (than wood screws), it helps prevent splitting the wood (especially if you pre-drill the hole).

Upon seeing the picture on another computer, I am curious about what might have been done to the colors of the image (the color is a little wack on my monitor here at the office). I would be highly unusual if ink colors other than cyan, magenta, yellow and black would be provided in such large totes, but the "blue" and "red" shown do not look even close to cyan (which is a much paler blue) or magenta (which is a pinker/bluer red).

I believe the practice is to wear the mask when one is sick to prevent the spread of the disease one has rather than to prevent catching something.
Yes, that is the norm. Though also frequently an attempt to forestall airborne allergens.

Government employees have been invited to submit ideas for reducing government spending. Only government employees can submit through this system. To enforce this restriction, one must register by using a government email address on an outside system. Upon registering, the system sends you a confirmation email, which you must use to validate your account, which you must do before one you are allowed to submit ideas.
Sadly, these confirmation emails cannot get through our firewall. There is no solution anticipated.

The Washington National Cathedral, officially named the Cathedral Church of Saint Peter and Saint Paul, is a cathedral of the Episcopal Church located in Washington, D.C... The cathedral is the seat of both the Presiding Bishop of the Episcopal Church, Katharine Jefferts Schori as of 2011; and the Bishop of the Diocese of Washington, John Bryson Chane as of 2011.
Wait, maybe it is just that she views 14-wheeled vehicles as an abomination.

That is correct, but legally it's still a nondenominational "National House of prayer" I believe the congressional designation was granted so they could hold state events there without it being an Episcopal service.

For starters the same Wiki article you mentioned (https://secure.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/wiki/Washington_National_Cathedral).
National House of Prayer
Congress has designated the Washington National Cathedral as the "National House of Prayer". During World War II, monthly services were held there "on behalf of a united people in a time of emergency". Before and since, the building has hosted other major events, both religious and secular, that have drawn the attention of the American people.
I'm curious to. I'm not finding any record of congress making any such designation (though record of politicians informally referring to it that way). Also not finding any reference at the cathedrals web site or the Protestant Episcopal Cathedral Foundation's (the organization originally chartered by Congress in 1893 to build one) to technical non-denominationalism. In fact it all seems to be very overt in its Episcopalianism and Christianiaty.
ETA: Here's the full text (http://books.google.com/books?id=ozU3AAAAIAAJ&pg=PA414#v=onepage&q&f=false) of the original congressional charter.

Declaring it a "National House of Prayer" is not the same as making it "legally non-denominational".

If you would like I can verify this with the bishop next time I see him. It's been a few months since we last talked about this, when he confirmed my son in the National Cathedral. He seemed fairly clear on the issue but I'll see if I can find some documentation to corroborate. You might have to wait a bit however, since the Cathedral is currently closed for repair.

Yes. Boys should now estimate the farthest distance they've peed adjusting for length of unit.

Yeah, sorry but this one (http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newstopics/howaboutthat/8772592/Animal-rights-group-PETA-to-launch-pornography-website.html) has Fail written all over it. (link is to an article on the telegraph.co.uk website, not the PETA site)
People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), no stranger to attention-grabbing campaigns featuring nude women, plans to launch a pornography website in the name of animal rights.
The basic idea seems to be mixing in scenes of animal cruelty with pornography.
Really, what could go wrong with that?

If I was a betting man, I'd wager the porn website never sees the light of day and this is just a publicity stunt, which I guess makes me PETA's bitch for today since I posted about it.
On the third hand, should be a handy tool for future serial killers. Seeing as it will combine two early steps down that road (not that either means you'll be a serial killer just that for those who do, they're both pretty common elements).
Now if only PETA could work in an app for the site where clicking a button will start a small fire.

Actually that's a really good point. They usually do things for publicity, get everybody all stirred up.

I'd have to say the "fail" is letting inmates design the logo in the first place.

The article says they didn't design it, but they're contracted to print and apply them and that one probably got into the system and modified it.
