Oh, and I've recommitted to fitness.

I really suffered for having lost my bike commute. 3-5 days a week of 20 miles of biking (minimum), which I looked forward to and was a reward/improvement over the alternative. Toward the end of 2012 I was probably in the best shape of my life.

Then I let my bike sit for 6 months. I forced myself to improve a little by signing up for the century ride again, but the training felt like a slog, and I barely managed to get myself in shape for it.

So last month I charged myself a pre-paid $15/month "You're out of shape, idiot!" tax - got myself a gym membership. So far at least, it's working. Love going there, making me feel great. We'll see how that goes as the pace of work picks back up from the holiday lull.

Last year I set a goal of an apple a week (average, or 52 apples over the year). I fell short of my goal, but got probably over halfway there, which is a HUGE increase in fruit consumption over the past.

Unfortunately, after weaning the kiddo this summer my thyroid went ape$h!t and I put on 20 pounds in like 4-5 months. Adjustment #1 has helped significantly, but I think short-term goal this year is get adjustment #2 to get the ol' thyroid back on track and then... deep breath... lose some fvcking weight. I know, cliche. I don't need to get thin, per se, just back into my old range, where I feel comfortable in my own skin. That'd be nice.

Oh, and to keep up with the apples. Because fruit is good for me.

I do have a resolution for the year, but it's a secret.

Is it bigger than a breadbox?

Alex 01-10-2014 06:13 PM

No, but will likely end up costing considerably more (not sure how much it would cost to build a time machine to go back and find a breadbox).

You inspired me to take a more detailed year in review

For 2013....I still need to keep aware that everything I do rubs off on my little guy. That I can feel it when I'm unhappy due to my time-use choices and that I need to listen to myself. That I'm not perfect but that's no reason to not try my best.

More physical activity would be good, too.
Yeah, I haven't really grown much, have I? I guess these are issues I'll always have to face.

After the lazy holidays and being sick for a while I felt like garbage from all the laying around, so I jumped aboard the cliche train and got a Groupon for Zumba classes. I've only been once so far and I can't say it's a fully life-changing experience, but it was fun and I'm going to see my 20-class commitment out.

I still don't quite know what I want from creative endeavors. I didn't do as much creatively for Theo's birthday as I had in the past and I'm ok with that. The only thing I resolve to do is to continue to think about art and keep trying things whenever I get even the slightest urge.

I resolve to do more date nights. Who wants to babysit? :)

I resolve to stop making resolutions.
