On another point, people have noted that MP was overreacting, as the criticism was not addressed to him. He may well be overreacting, but it was addressed to him. JWB, I have to say that responding directly to MP's defense of product marketing, with a statement to the gist of "apologists are lame," implies that you think MP is an apologist and thus lame. Which is kind of lame.

I had no idea MP was a diehard Apple fanboy when I wrote that, nor that he was going to react the way he did. No, the criticism was not aimed specifically at him. I was aiming at those who consider Apple and Steve Jobs as the second coming. Obviously I hit too close to home for MP.

I don't recall ever calling myself a "diehard Apple fanboy" - but if you need to reduce me to a label in order to justify your boorish behavior, so be it.

Actually, the way I recall this particular conversation going (and I can scroll back, so I know I'm correct) is that there was a funny headline linked to an article about Jobs. CP said that he was a "douche". Kevy engaged her and asked why he was a douche for his promoting his product , and CP responded that the various products should compete on their own ("Why not just let products compete instead of telling everyone what to think?"). Then Betty took a jab at Apple fanboys. I then sarcastically suggested that Apple suspend all their promotion and advertising, and the next post - your first post in this topic, was a direct response to my comment (you quoted me), and was filled with vitriolic sarcasm and misspelling.

So please don't act holier-than-thou when you're being a pompous bully.

There was no slobbering on my part. I was just responding to what I saw was a particularly cheap and easy shot coming from the "other side".

And the "obviously I hit too close to home" crap? Really? I guess I expected more from you.

Hey, I'm gonna be at that park that assh*le Walt someoneorother built. Today. Yup, gonna be there. Any of my fannies wanna join me? Er, I mean, homies, er, fanboys - eh, whatever. I'm sure the Facebook version of this conversation is much more sophisticated.

(Emphasis mine.)

So you can use sarcasm, but I can't? Sorry, I did not know that. (Oops! Sarcasm again! My bad.)

Yes, my original post was in response to yours, but it wasn't aimed at you personally. And while you may have never called yourself a "diehard Apple fanboy" you sure as hell act like one. You responded to criticism of Apple as if you yourself had been personally insulted. I wasn't being "hateful" of Apple and apple cultists. I was trying to poke gentle fun at, what I see as, the absurd worship of all things Apple. You then tried to stir the flames by hurling barbs at Walt Disney in an obvious attempt to anger Disney fans. It didn't work, because no one here is as worshipful of Disney as you appear to be of Apple. It is you, BTW, who started with the personal insults, not me.

There is nothing wrong with brand loyalty; but loyalty to the point that you get angry at the merest criticism (whether justified or not) of that brand is way over the top.

I don't hate Apple. Apple is no better, or worse, than any other company. If that statement makes you angry, and you feel personally insulted by it, then it is you that has a problem, my friend, not me.

OK, people, stop being haters. There's not enough time for it.

I'm a Mac convert and I have LOTS of reasons that I'll never go back to a PC. But, I don't think you PC users are a bunch of dooches - unless you start acting like one.

So, don't be a douche.
