My neighbour is this somewhat nerdy vegan who works as a researcher at the FDA. One day his doorbell rings, it's the Lady that live across the street. She wants to know if he thinks the dress her 15 Year old daughter wants to wear is acceptable. Standing next to her, is the daughter in a dress with an ulta-sheer top which clearly shows the dress is the only thing she has on. He was so flustered and tongue tied he never got a real answer out but I don't think she was allowed to wear the dress.... |

I also don't like touching velvet, but I love how it looks.
I like touching suede though. For some people that's a turnoff. |
Velvet is rich, luscious and, well, velvety (not to be confused with veveeta, which is not, that's just gross). I think of it best as costume, but I think as NA mentioned, in a real vintage piece of clothing, it would be wonderful.

"would you let your daughter wear this?" she said lets just say victoria had no more secrets in that particular dress. I mumbled and stumbled and dont even recall what I actually said beyond "I dont have a daughter" I could hear her talking to her underdressed teen as they walked away "did you see his face? you're not wearing this" |
In the Steampunk thread, I kinda went overboard posting several beautiful pieces from the Pyramid Collection catalog. Many of them were velvet. This is my favorite one, but I think it is mainly because of the model (in case you are worried, the picture is totally safe for work):

I love wearing velvet. An added bonus- doesn't wrinkle. :) Should be used judiciously, though, as it can be overbearing.
