I believe the Korean spelling was an homage to the Korean Bell that rests above point Vermin. I can't remember if we stopped there or just did a drive by.

If this ends up happening, tell me when and where. (And hopefully tell me elsewhere, as I don't seem to end up here much anymore. )

Here's where and when:

Ju Koon will be ON Ju Koon. Saturday, September 18th.

Ritual casting off of unwanted life things via bread totem - the Tide Pools at Oceana.

Basically, it's south on Via Vicente to the Ocean, which is the street across Palos Verdes Drive South from Hawthorne Blvd. (as if you were continuing across PV South on Hawthorne). There's plentiful free parking at a clifftop lot on Calle Entradero.

I was just shown this area a few weeks ago, and it's stunningly gorgeous. There's also the possibility we might opt instead for the tide pools at White Point, near Abalone Cove park, a mile or so southward along the rugged shoreline (but I think the parking is more iffy there).

Low tide is at 1:20 p.m., and high tide returns at 7:30. So preliminary plans are for tide pools in the early afternoon, followed by various potential area excursions (the Cabrillo Marine Museum and a beautiful hike at the stunning Trump Golf Course) - and then, after dark, the traditional Koon hunt at Point Fermin Park (where WE are the hunted).

More details to follow. Suggestions are welcome. Except the suggestion to move Ju Koon to another date. Ju Koon will be on Ju Koon. Don't argue with the Hebrew God. He's a vengeful and omnipotent deity. And that's to say nothing of the Korean gods and the Raccoon spirits. :tiki:

As usual I work - this sucks....

Prudence 09-09-2010 04:28 PM

How bad is the hike down? And back up? I sometimes get all vertigo-ish. But, I've been wanting to see the tidepools.

I will need to know how many people are going to be there as I have swag.

innerSpaceman 09-09-2010 05:03 PM

Well, I've never hiked down ... which is partly why I'm so keen to do it. People and dogs at the bottom seemed like they were having the MOST FUN, but we didn't have time to check it out.

I must say, it looked to be moderately steep descent and climb down a hillside (not a cliff). Not beyond anyone's capabilities, I'd say - but not a casual stroll.

I'd like to participate; but how do I explain this to Bill so he doesn't think we're all insane?

I think it's too late for that....

--------
And I have a friend visiting from out of town and we have tentative plans. So it depends what is finalized.

Prudence 09-09-2010 05:30 PM

Don't explain! Tell him it's a "normal" outing and let it be a surprise.

Rat and I will try to be there. Might take me forever to get down and back up, but i'll give it a go.
