JuKoon [must be] soon!
The holidays that inspired JooKoon are soon upon us. That means JooKoon is soon!
However one of the founders is not going to be back in CA until October. So, we must 1) decide if we are going to celebrate JooKoon and 2) when it will be celebrated. I'll kindly request not the first weekend in Oct since I'll be out of town (and not seeing K in Vegas). I know there is an annual event the 2nd weekend in Oct. That leaves 2 weekends then Halloween. Or we can turn Labor Day into miniJooKoon. Or we have to get K out here before Oct. |

I believe the more common spelling (at least according to the searching I just did) is Ju Koon (or JuKoon, though the version with a space is more common).
For others who don't remember (or don't know) what Ju Koon is, I think the first post in this thread covers it fairly well.

It's coming up sooner than you think. Friday night, September 17. Sorry, but um, there's no "changing" it or having it on a date convenient, any more than you can change Christmas. It's really early this year - - but at least it's on a Friday ... technically Friday sunset to Saturday sunset - so we could celebrate Saturday, if that's more convenient.

Me, too. I didn't know till this thread was posted ... and frankly, I would likely have missed it entirely. It's almost always in October.
You could always celebrate Ju Koon in Las Vegas. Throw some bread into the lake at the Bellagio! |

I hate Jewish holidays, or rather the timing of them. They never got the memo about standardized dates - or rather, I suppose they thought the memo was part of a Roman plot to wipe them off the face of the earth, and thus rejected it.
So, while pleasantly tribal, Jewish holidays are still worked off the phases and timing of the moon and, for all I know, sticks cast among the reeds. So they're never on the same date each year, and generally "float" among a time period of roughly a month in either direction. This year, Ju-Koon is really early. The good news is, it's on a Saturday. The bad news is, I don't get a day off work that way. ![]() |
