Well, on the bright side, your back door is viewable only to your patio because the garage blocks it from anyone else. So, technically, if you don't mind the sunlight, you can get away with not covering it.

If you hate vertical blinds (and I have a growing animosity for mine over the slider), you're probably going to end up caving and at least putting a sheer there to filter the light. Nice thing about curtains is at least when they're pulled all the way back, they still look attractive.

I like the sliding vertical panels that Ikea sells now. Much cooler than regular vertical blinds.

My personal favorite method is to wait until my mother redecorates and then get her old drapes. And furniture. And Christmas dishes. And so forth and so on. I'll be getting like-new sheers any day now.
