Well, then I'm glad she was born in India ... rather than say, oh, Sparta.

Did you see the other baby in that article?
I wonder why so many birth defects are happening in India. |
While I'm fairly certain there are a lot of conditions such as pollution, poor diet and such could be the culprit, I suspect it's really a numbers game. The sheer volume of babies born in India each day has to be enormous, thus increasing the odds of oddities.

I wonder if both faces are functional. Do they have different personalities?
|
Apparently both faces blink and drink

I was made curious. And when I get curious I do pointless research. And having done that I share it with people who don't care. India has a population of 1.1 billion. They have an annual birth rate of 23 births per 1000 people. Resulting in 25.3 million babies born each year.
Here's the number for the top 20 countries. A baby born to a top 20 country has almost a 1/3 chance of being born in India. I suspect China also has a lot of interesting defects but the information infrastructure probably isn't as good at getting the word out. India - 25.3 million babies born China - 17.0 million Nigeria - 5.9 million Pakistan - 4.4 million Indonesia - 4.3 million United States - 4.2 million Bangladesh - 3.9 million Brazil - 3.6 million Ethiopia - 2.9 million Philippines - 2.3 million Mexico - 2.1 million Egypt - 1.8 million Vietnam - 1.6 million Russia - 1.5 million Iran - 1.4 million Turkey - 1.3 million Japan - 1.1 million Thailand - .92 million France - .78 million Germany - .67 million |
