Drinking toast-

Hey all-

Does anyone know any good drinking toasts? Preferrably french if possible but I can always translate one as well.

Here's to honor: Get on her and stay on her.

(Actually used at our wedding.)

I picture drinking toast, and it's not so appetizing...

Wish I had a good toast to contribute... :(

Milk toast is what immediately came to mind, I've always thought of French toast as a good eating toast, but, hey, if you're at that age, Vive le blender!

Try cinnamon raisin.

Snowflake 06-19-2008 09:07 AM

a votre sante ?

and I asked a friend and got this back:

Donna, I do not know any classic, time-honored or local colloquial toasts - a lifetime spent drinking coffee or scotch alone . . . .

However, if you friend wishes to please a French audience, she need only say one of the following:

A la Patrie! (in honor of the whole country of France)

Liberte, Egalite, Fraternite (with its patriotic echo of Ze Revolution)

Kevy Baby 06-19-2008 09:24 AM

A good start might be to do a Google search for toasts and then start wading through those results which might be French specific. Searching for "French Toasts" just brings a lot of recipes

Nephythys 06-19-2008 10:12 AM

I did that- I was not having any luck

3894 06-19-2008 10:29 AM

French drinking toast, eh? What they usually say is Salut! or A votre santé!.

Any of these proverbs would work. If you need translation of any of them, let me know.

Now that I have a moment I will explain.

In August the Madam of our House will be retiring (Colorado Rogues) and the Mistress of the House will take her place. She plans to make some changes- for example we will be going for a more courtesan style as opposed to street walkers :)

She wants a french influence- Le Maison de la Joile Filles (feel free to correct my verbiage)

For the retirement and promotion ceremony we are planning a drinking ceremony- retiring the Madam and her House drink and introducing the new Madam and her House drink.

So I am looking for inspiration for the toast- honoring the outgoing and welcoming the incoming.

I need it in French- so I can learn it :) and will be offering the toast at the ceremony.

3894? If I write one- can you help me translate it?

Are you a hooker? If so, what are your rates?

Alice's embrocation tasted like: "cherry-tart, custard, pineapple, roast turkey, toffee, and hot buttered toast."

Merci pour tout, et voici un bon contrôle gratuit
("Thanks for everything and here's a free checkup voucher")

3894-
I appreciate your help so much!

First can you help me with the name of our new drink?

The Passion Fairy
The Fairy of Passion

:)

Nephythys 06-20-2008 10:02 PM

here is a toast I would like translated-

here's the the men, God bless them
worst of my sins I confess them
In loving them all
be they great or small
so here's to the boys, God bless them

and-

Here's to me.
Here's to you.
Here's to the guys we fvck and screw.
Here's to them for fvcking us over,
and here's to us for never being sober!

and-

Here's to the men we love
Here's to the men that love us
And if the men we love don't love us
Fvck them and here's to us..

and....

It's not the length.
It's not the size
It's how often he can make it rise.

How about:

Debout! les damnés de la terre!
Debout! les forçats de la faim!
La raison tonne en son cratère,
C'est l'éruption de la fin.
Du passé faisons table rase,
Foule esclave, debout, debout,
Le monde va charger de base,
Nous ne sommes rien, soyons tout!
C'est la lutte finale
Groupons-nous, et, demain,
L'Internationale
Sera le genre humain.

wendybeth 06-21-2008 12:45 AM

"Your mother was a hamster, and your father smelled of elderberries!"

(Sorry- couldn't resist)

LashStoat 06-21-2008 01:55 AM

Dear Nephythys,

"To all we've done,
and all we've kissed,
it's now the time,
to all get pissed".

I can neither say it in French or when I'm pissed...when said and done it's you I've missed...smooch.
Love and hugs,

The Stoat XXX

Wake up! the wretched of the Earth!
Wake up! the convicts on hunger!
The reason tonne in its crater,
It is the eruption of the end.
From the past are clean slate,
Crowd slave, standing upright,
The world will load base
We do nothing, let us all!
This is the final fight
Groupons us, and tomorrow
The International
Will the human race.

?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

...Bloody Google translation....

Kevy Baby 06-21-2008 06:48 AM

Aux hommes, que Dieu les bénisse
Les pires pêchés, je les confesse
Petits ou grands
Aux garçons, que Dieu les bénisse

That one just doesn't work in French because of the play on words. Sorry.

Aux hommes que nous aimons

Merde

I left off the "and here's to us" because it's just more French the way I translated it.

C'est plutot combien de fois il se lève.
