A challenge for the showtunes queens
Okay boys and girls, here's your challenge. Watch this remix of a number from Jerry Springer: The Opera:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QQs316I1awE It's not work safe due to the use of the word fück, but otherwise it's quite tame. Can you name all of the clips used? I consider myself quite the showtunes queen, but there were a few films in there I couldn't place. Can you help me fill in the gaps? I have not listed the clips from Jerry Springer, so anytime you see Alison Jiear (and her pole), it won't be included in my list. When I wasn't sure what I was seeing, I briefly described the scene and highlighted the text in blue.

Let me see...

No. 12 - drag queen in a white wig is from Baz Lurhman's Romeo + Juliet, same for No. 60, 'natch, and No. 139. That's the only film I recognized that you have missed, and you caught a handful more than I.
I really don't recognize the cheerleader/high school stuff ... and there was a lot of it. I'm thinkin the Leonardo in a wheat field must be from Gilbert Grape, but he looks too old. (edited to add, maybe JW's right and it's also from Romeo + Juliet) Maybe Not Afraid will chime in on the mysterious Bollywood stuff. In any event, it was a ReALLy FuN VIdeO to watch! |
I need to first print out the list and follow it through.
|
The first "Bollywood" is from The Guru.
|
12, Black woman/drag queen in white wig
Kinky Boots? |
45 is a film I've seen, trying to recall the name, also has Marilyn Monroe in it, gimme a sec to check Netflix and I'll probably have an answer
|
45. There's No Business Like Show Business

And now that I think on it, there's no wheat field in that film. That Leonardo clip is still a mystery. Seems so like Gilbert Grape in setting, but he's like 4 years old in that movie. |
All of the Bollywood clips are from The Guru - not a Bollywood film at all.
The quick clip of the girl is the Blue Bikini is from Austin Powers I'm wrong about Kinky Boots (I think) The Saturday Night Fever homage looks very familiar but I can't place it. Is it Heather Graham or Cameron Diaz? Charlie's Angels? Not sure. |

![]() And yes, NA, you're wrong about Kinky Boots. That's Mercutio from the same R+J, without question. |
26 is Xanadu, lock it in, SM.
|
Your green cheerleaders and red cheerleaders are from "Bring It On"
|
#21 if from "Not Another Teen Movie"

It was when I realized it was desolation and not wheat that it was not R+J. And I'm pretty darn sure it's not Titantic. The Leonardo Mysterioso remains unsolved. |
Just pulled out the DVD. It's Romeo + Juliet, it's the scene I thought it was. That's not wheat, it's weeds/dead grass.
I knew there was no way he wore that shirt in more than one movie. |

Did you intend to leave a "?" on #6? Because I know with 100% certainty that it's Romeo + Juliet.

I don't think 24 is American Beauty because the school's colors in there were green. I know this because they filmed it at the high school I went to and remember remarking that they used our colors. GD, good catch on the shirt from the mysterious Leonardo clip. That shirt absolutely does match. I did a little searching and this clip absolutely cinches it. Loot at the 36 second mark. 29 is not Camp. I am very familiar with that film. Here's what (I think) we have so far. Your aditions/corrections are welcome:
|
You're missing my update on 112, that's also Charlie's Angels 2.
And, no, GD, I didn't mean to leave that one with a question mark - I agree it's definitely R+J. |

All those Prom shots - Another Teen Movie. |

#37 is from "Bring It On"
#24 - ?? #107 - ?? In posts directly above, I believe CP means "Not Another Teen Movie" |

So that leaves us with:
A big thanks to all those whom have submitted answers, I really appreciate it. And a special thanks to GD who thinks I didn't believe him. ;) I just take a long time to write these responses sometimes. |
24 is from "Sugar and Spice"
|
63 is Showgirls (I think)

It is a quick cut after Alison Jiear sings and before Teen Movie and Chicago. It goes here: 20-Shrek Alison Jiear Austin Powers - Blue Bikini 21-Not Another Teen Movie 22-Chicago Lincoln High School Cheerleader - Sugar and Spice |
In Xanadu, did kubla khan.. wait. I mean, they DID wear usherette outfits with pillbox hats and trays.
Now I have to go look on the clip to see, as I can't find the FULL Xanadu clip anywhere. They all cut out the dance break in the middle. :( Edited to add: This is most definitely Xanadu: ![]() |
Damn, 24 I knew was Sugar & Spice but was beat to it.
But that's about when I got tired of listening to the song and stopped. |

I'm going to watch Showgirls again this week. I think that three of the clips are from that classic.
|
For those that might enjoy it, Alison was the opening act for the Sydney Mardi Gras party and sang this song. You can watch a clip here. Notice the it's a small world inspired set and costumes on the dancers. :)
