Grease
push suds into your follicles
pump soap into your life line food surface scoured shiny seamless clean and clean until it squeaks in surrender then put the grease back in pour the oil back on top comb in conditioner, let it simmer afterward, eliminate every drop erotic inclinations and violent indications mischievous predilections, anti-social complications such dirty thoughts and deeds must be flushed such ugly stuff must be fully pasteurized and fluffed then put the grease back in blood and bone, factory fresh twist a knob and pump adrenaline push a button and ejaculate so put the grease back in expression protected, in a box the review board stamped the packaging we can pretend we feel again take the precise words from our pleading mouths take the truth from the answers that stutter out take the contact out of our waning clout take the conflict and growth and creative spout feeling sterilized in isolation safe from dangerous influx but you can't cook without some sizzle have to exchange fluids when you fvck have to put the grease back in layer it in pre-measured amounts none of this moves without some lubrication we'll just use some brand name muck |

I feel sort of ... oily after reading that. I'm doubly glad that this was such an enjoyable poem, and that it had nothing whatsoever to do with the movie/musical. |
Ilikeit!

I thought this tread was going to be about that movie with Olivia Newton John and John Travolta.
I need help..... |
And every time I see the title, I get stuck with the opening credit earworm.

Frankie Valli is performing at the Gibson Amphitheater on June 19, if anybody is interested.

First and foremost - my love and thanks to those who posted happy things here and who gave me mojo. :)

I happen to like the title, as some of the ideas for this piece have been floating in my head for a long time now and finally coalesced. Putting yourself out there can be tough. Yes, I got good responses as well, but I'd rather have less good responses than have it completely derail into talk about "hey, that's the same title as something else". Hell, I'd rather have an interesting discussion with people that take issue with the ideas I present. Perhaps it's not completely obvious to others, but what I wrote means something to me, it's not just something frivolous. It's not a link to some other blog or video. It's a part of me I wanted others to see. I love discussion about topics that art kicks up. This is not that. Sorry, but this is really frustrating to me. The Open Mic hasn't exactly been jumping as of late, and it might be because of this kind of thing. |
Don't say f*ck, dear. It's not nice.
Seriously, it is the ultimate derail. "Oh, she said 'f*ck.' Was that an appropriate word choice, or is she trying to shock me? I think she is. Reminds me of Nicole Kidman at the end of 'Eyes Wide Shut.' Not frank and honest, that. A big sore thumb. Still, not as bad as George Clooney in 'From Dusk Til Dawn.' I didn't believe a single of the hundred f-bombs that came out of his mouth. And . . . wait, where was I? Oh, the middle of a poem." Factchecking department: you don't have to exchange bodily fluids when you f*ck. That's what condoms are for. That aside, although I think your thesis is a bit overstated, I thought the poem was quite well rendered. |

I, too, have a bit of a dirty mouth. In fact, I'd put my dirty mouth up against anybody's, but . . .that doesn't mean I'd throw the word f*ck around in a poem.
Not sure I agree that sh*t is a more appropriate word/signal/connoter of the particular physical process than, say, "have a nice B.M." is. |

I think Fvck works in context of the poem - especially that notion of sanitizing to make the dirty clean. Especially when, most of these things and practices have been promoted to make your more sexy (i.e. fvckable) when sex is inherently messy.

 Wonderful words.
------------ I too am guilty of humming the opening credits to the film. I guess that shows the power of the word and of pop culture. It really shows how we have preconceived notions for just about everything and sometimes that's just useless baggage. |
