food surface scoured shiny seamless
clean and clean until it squeaks in surrender

then put the grease back in
pour the oil back on top
comb in conditioner, let it simmer
afterward, eliminate every drop

erotic inclinations and violent indications
mischievous predilections, anti-social complications
such dirty thoughts and deeds must be flushed
such ugly stuff must be fully pasteurized and fluffed

then put the grease back in
blood and bone, factory fresh
twist a knob and pump adrenaline
push a button and ejaculate

so put the grease back in
expression protected, in a box
the review board stamped the packaging
we can pretend we feel again

take the precise words from our pleading mouths
take the truth from the answers that stutter out
take the contact out of our waning clout
take the conflict and growth and creative spout

feeling sterilized in isolation
safe from dangerous influx
but you can't cook without some sizzle
have to exchange fluids when you fvck

have to put the grease back in
layer it in pre-measured amounts
none of this moves without some lubrication
we'll just use some brand name muck

I feel sort of ... oily after reading that.

I'm doubly glad that this was such an enjoyable poem, and that it had nothing whatsoever to do with the movie/musical.

It's been almost TWO YEARS since I posted a poem. I was very excited that I found some inspiration in a beloved area that has been dry for me for a very long time. Putting yourself out there can be tough. Perhaps it's not completely obvious to others, but what I wrote means something to me, it's not just something frivolous. It's not a link to some other blog or video. It's a part of me I wanted others to see. I love discussion about topics that art kicks up. This is not that.

Sorry, but this is really frustrating to me. The Open Mic hasn't exactly been jumping as of late, and it might be because of this kind of thing.
