DVD editing software recomendations

I'm transfering 8mm home movies to DVD through a transfer box (playing the movies into the box which hits a mirror and is recorded by my digital camcorder). But these movies are from the early 60's and are pretty bad looking.

Anyone know of a easy to use and inexpensive software program that will allow me to edit, add sound, and clean up color and artifacts?

Thanks!

Yes, because as I found out, they aren't looking better over time.....

I've done some web brousing on the subject, and found that there are a number of programs that allow editing, special effects, and some enhancement like hue adjustment, background and foreground lighting and shake reduction. But nothing for graininess and artifact removal. Some have artifact addition to make new film look old, but I guess the opposit take some powerfull and expensive professional programs.

At least if I get them transfered into digital I can stop the damage from film decay, and see what kind of programs come out in the future.

I use Pinnacle 12 and it's pretty user friendly and not horribly expensive.

I assume you are working on a PC and not a Mac? I ask because the Mac comes with a fairly decent (and free) editing program called iMovie.

(This is not meant to start another war - I am just trying to make sure).

Yes, I'm a PC.

I have heard of the iMovie program, but I think what i will need is probably a more complicated program than the free ones.

Thanks Snowflake, i'll check Pinnacal out, and see how it compares!
