Gene Pitney dies at 65

story here

I first discovered Gene Pitney through cover versions of his songs: Nick Cave singing "Something's Gotten Hold of My Heart" and John Otway doing "The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance". A 2-LP Rhino "best-of" clued me in to the genius that Gene had as a performer. While he hadn't had any hits in the last several years, he was and continues to be an important part of my iPod rotation. Give a listen to "Town Without Pity", shed a tear and remember the man. I know I will.
