The Haunted Mansion: Real-life origins of the building design

Every once in a while, one stumbles across a true, Disney geek-out find on the Internet, and here is one of them!

The writer of the "Disneyland Nomenclature" blog did some research and found photos and information about the real-life building design which inspired Disneyland's Haunted Mansion. The Shipley-Lydecker House, built by Charles Shipley in 1803, was located at 2550 McHenry St. in Baltimore, Maryland, and the owner was Phillip Leydecker.

Wow, I've long known the Baltimore house inspired the Mansion, but I don't recall seeing photos of the exterior that show how much of a Direct Copy the HM is. Interesting.

It looks like the location is just a dirt lot now.

Although you could visit the B&O Railroad Museum while you were there!
