The Lost Symbol

Dan Brown's new novel "The Lost Symbol" came out yesterday. I expect I'll pick up a copy today.

I've heard that this one takes place around D.C. Which should make it fun for me, I suppose we can look forward to a slew of "Lost Symbol" tours soon.

If I can find the time I might try to read parts of the book while visiting the actual locations.....

It could be fun. I'll wait for a few reviews before I plunge. I hope it's preposterous but entertaining, like Angels and Demons, rather than preposterous, self-important and maddeningly dumb, like DaVinci Code.

Darn it - I knew there was something I was supposed to be doing on my way home yesterday. Forgot to stop and pick up a copy.

I enjoyed his other books a lot. I loved the tie in of history and adventure, fiction or not.

How am I supposed to finish re-reading Angels and Demons before I see the movie when he is writing new books that I now have to read?

Personally, I like to have some time between when I read a book and see the movie. A year or so is good. It gives me time for forget most of the books details so I don't wig out at every little variation in the film.

So my recommendation would be skip the re-read until after you have seen the film and jump right into the new novel.

Slate has an interactive Dan Brown plot generator.

I still have to read Angels and Demons and it'll probably be a while before I get to Lost Symbol. While I don't believe it has much of a foot in reality, it's a fun premise and I love the talk about symbols! Plus the puzzles can be fun.

Oh yeah, this is gonna be fun.

In Chapter-3 there is a phone number. If you call the number (a 202 area code) you get the voice mail for the character in the book.

Haha. I'm at about chapter 5 and I wanted to try the number as I noticed it was a real looking number not a 555.
