Usually the dress involved is not a dress at all. Or at least, a dress that could get you arrested.

This look has been around for a year or two now, mostly among people younger than us, BTD. Whaddaya mean, I can't shop at Charlotte Russe anymore? On the upside of this trend - cute tops with long torsos are back. Some even lean towards the dress side of things. So there's a line you can move towards. Goodbye, inadvertent midriff!

Thanks guys. I'm so oblivious to trends but I saw this and thought ooo maybe.

BE - cost/quality doesn't matter. I know I'll only wear them once or twice anyways since I hate dresses. The purging of my closet is done though. YAY! And CP - I haven't been able to shop at Charlotte Russe since I was 13. ![]() |

This seems to be a throw back to the 80's when you wore leggings instead of jeans. I think some people can pull it off as an outfit. It depends. But it truly is just a trend that is being RE-trended.

If you like it then go for it. Wear what you like!

I'm digging the longer tanks and tops. For the most part, it suits my body well. Even better if it's empire, for my body type.

It's strange being not-so-young and at college with a bunch of people that are typically between 5-10 years younger than me, and a handful that are 15+ years older than me. I've found myself going to school looking like a lot of the younger kids. At an American Marketing Association event last semester, I bumped into one of my favorite professors. First, we laughed about everyone being dressed up. Did shots with a bunch of people (hey, there was an open bar!). Then started talking about age. I mentioned I was 28. He was stunned. I was happy. So, I get a school pass on doing the whole Abercrombie/Hollister thing with the long tanks, sloppy jeans, flip flops with my hair tied back. I still shouldn't do the dress thing, though I've been tempted.

I may try it on. Or try on a *dress that really isn't a dress* top and see how it looks. I finally started wearing shorts (all hail Bermuda shorts!) and open toed shoes. I suppose dresses are next. |

You know, anytime anyone calls them Bermuda shorts, I think of Merlin from The Sword in the Stone or Doc Brown from Back to the Future.

Dresses *or* jeans, but never combine the two.

I love the GFY girls... yes, they trash things that regular people think look fine, but their commentary is to die for. Thirty-something is a strange place to be, fashion-wise. The choices I've found and rejected are teeny-bopper (midriff tops, tight jeans or falling off jeans, flirty little things) or old lady (wild patterns, things cut wide, and lots of two-piece tops that just don't work for me). Even my mom faces the same conundrum; she doesn't like the things that are otherwise slated for her cohort. But to go younger is to go *really* young and that frightens people. It frightens me to think about dressing that way. I'm still working on my style. Even when I find something I like, getting it to fit is a whole other nightmare. BTD, good luck in finding some wardrobe.
