DVD/CD player burner
My laptop is just over a year old. My CD/DVD player does not play discs well. It's choppy, the sound gets crackly like the disc is not being read properly.
Any tech-savvy people have any idea? The lens out of place? Any thoughts on what I can do to fix it?

The first idea that springs to mind is a Drive Cleaner.
Past that, does it work for data CD's? Does music/video played from the drive do the same thing? |

Music CDs and movie DVDs both have the same issues, skippy, crackly sound, like the theing is not reading or like a disc is defective. I have the Dell default media player and Cyberlink DVD (which is the preferred player for movies) and both have the same issues. I will get a drive cleaner and try this out. I can't imagine it's dirty as I do not use it all that much. The likelyhood of cat hair in there somewhere is not outside the realm of possibility, either. Thanks Moonie.

If you play them do you get the crackle? I'm wondering if it's the CD or something with the speaker system. |

Well, phooey.
The CD/DVD cleaner did not a thing to improve the playing of a CD or DVD. Mind, when I import a CD into iTunes, the music is fine. Just when I am actually playing a CD or DVD. Ya think something inside might be loose?

Try using Windows Media or other free players to play your discs. Since the music imports fine, your drive is probably ok, right?

No, the music importing fine does not necessarily mean the drive is okay. When importing. Importing is a different operation than real-time audio playback. It does mean that the issue isn't likely to be drive optics.
