I have the Dell default media player and Cyberlink DVD (which is the preferred player for movies) and both have the same issues.

I will get a drive cleaner and try this out. I can't imagine it's dirty as I do not use it all that much. The likelyhood of cat hair in there somewhere is not outside the realm of possibility, either.

Thanks Moonie.
Do you have any MP3's or DVD's stored on the hard drive of the PC (or on a flash drive)?
If you play them do you get the crackle? I'm wondering if it's the CD or something with the speaker system.

iTunes is stored on the external drive and the music plays just fine. Loading music via iTunes is beyond slow. Takes forever for a CD to import, but I chalk that up to iTunes which seems to have gotten slower and slower as the version number rises.

Make sense?
