Nah.... Just get a set where the string on one side is stuck. You'll have diagonal blinds! (We have a set like that in our office.)

What about the Roman shades or whatever they're called. The curtains that go up and down like blinds.

I'm so excited for you both. I can only imagine how much fun it would be to have your own place and do with it what you like. Decorating, painting, home theatre set up, themed rooms, installing an aquarium into a wall... it's countless how many things you could do.

The answer is two curtain rods. You put sheers behind and curtains in front. If you want full light, you open all, partial light you close the sheers (good for during the day privacy w/out blocking too much view), then at night for privacy you close the curtains.

Curtains are also harder to keep clean. I prefer blinds, and while I like the horizontal ones better than the vertical, the vertical are really the only good solution for sliding glass doors that open onto balconies--but you don't have that, at least, I didn't see anything like that in the photos.

I agree with Morrigoon - we use dual curtain rods in our living room, and it looks wonderful.

There's a sliding door onto the back patio. That's gonna be the hardest. I can live with curtains+sheers everywhere else, but that sliding door is right next to the kitchen. And if you think curtains in general are hard to keep clean, consider curtains + kitchen. Ick. But we both dispise verticle blinds. Grrrrr.
