John Waters: Change of Life

Just got an email for this exhibit at the Orange County Museum of Art:

John Waters: Change of Life
On view through January 15th, 2006

John Waters has been taking photographs for years. But not the kind you and I take. He photographs television screens, taking stills of everything that interests him and using them as the raw material for works that Waters calls his "little movies."

From the OCMA web site...."In these novel photographic sequences, Waters skewers cultural symbols and stereotypes, and elaborates on the cultural and subcultural themes that have been central to all his work: race, sex, sanctimony, glamour, class, family, politics, celebrity, religion, the media, and the allure of crime."

He does take "regular" photographs, as well, but Waters' prospective is uniquely his. In addition to photos and collages, you'll see sculptures and early Waters movies.

The exhibition is a hoot. If you view it, don't miss Waters' narrated iPod tour. He makes his work accessible in ways you'd never imagined.
check out the details at the website here: http://www.ocma.net/index.html?page=...Change_of_Life

oh yes, and there's even a film serries: http://www.ocma.net/index.html?page=...E_CRUSH:__FILM

though it appears the cult-classic Pink Flamingos is not on the bill.
