They keep making these craptacular Piratish movies and eventually, they'll have a whole generation of people pirated out - and not even the ride at Disneyland will have much appeal.

Way to go, ya scurvy dogs!

No, I take that back, whale vomit can be quite valuable.
There are exceptions, but so few as to prove the rule. Movie based video games always suck.

Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay was much better than the movie it was based on.

Once I saw the IHop commercial with a pirate stealing stuffed french toast I knew it was over.

Pirate Masters starts on 5/31.

Pirates pirates everywhere. It's overload.

But I am still going to the movie- but not til next week for a twilight showing. Taking my family requires small loans to accomplish.

Ok, here's my official review. Very sloppily written because technical problems with the screening resulted in me seeing at such a time as I only have 55 minutes to write it between getting up and going going to work on Thursday.

I think there is a movie in there just as good as the first. But it is so laden with excess baggage it is hard to see. I had a lot of fun with the last hour and bits and pieces of the first but the second is an almost complete waste of time.

However, the faults are those found in the Lord of the Rings cycle (self importance, complex mythology, too many side stories, etc.) and think if Pirates were from source material that had been simmering in the popular consciousness for 50 years then many of the people (including myself) complaining about these things would think them wonderful and necessary.

Chow Yun Fat is completely wasted. His storyline and the Tia Dalma storyline (which I am saddened to see many reviewers explicitly spoiled) could have been cut completely with necessary parts written in otherwise and trimming the movie to a frenetic and fun 2 hours.

Not a bad review, even for a rush job. Not to say that it's not a "bad" review; it seems as if you're recommending precisely my chosen course - i.e., wait for the DVD with its convenience of nap breaks and fast-forward.

From what I've heard though, and without spoiling anything ... I understand the post-credits bit is rather important toward understanding a key story point.

If so, then except for is sappiness and that the love is true, I missed the significance. And even then you can be told all the details without having to sit through the ILM company phoonebook.

I liked it. it probably seemed a little long to me because of the big-gulp I had reaching its end before the movie did. beyond that...yeah, I'd see it again.
may yet.

I really liked it. Much better than the 2nd, not a giant set up for another one but it is left open for a 4th if they choose to go that route.

Maybe about a half hour that could have been cut throughout the movie but all in all it was really good. A few ride references, some really funny stuff and amazing effects.

So with that, I realize that I have less discriminating tastes* in movies than most everyone here, so you'll probably all hate it.

*I was super excited over the Transformers preview

We did leave before the end of the credits - can someone post what was there in spoilers?
