*Shrug* I'm sure the same people who are making the "Gee, two days after the fact, big whoop" comments would be saying, "Great, he's just going to get in the way" if he were to fly out today.

This is his job as Figurehead in Chief of the country. Coming out now would be pointless and would indeed be getting in the way. But declaring it a federal emergency and then not coming out at all would be deemed insensitive. So he comes out when his presence won't be a disruption to do the usual Presidnetial thing of getting a first-hand overview, talk to the people in charge, and be informed.

I'm never one to pass up the chance to criticize the twerp when he deserves it, I don't see this as deserving it. His response to this has been exactly what a President's response should be.
