Police: Man confined daughter, sired her 7 kids
3 of her children ‘never saw sunlight,’ official says; outrage in Austria

AMSTETTEN, Austria - A toy elephant sat atop the medicine cabinet. Stickers of a chubby butterfly and smiling octopus decorated a wall.

But the door to those rooms was sinister — a soundproof slab with a keyless, electronic lock requiring a secret code that hid what police called a windowless house of horrors.

In those cell-like rooms behind that door, investigators say retired electrician Josef Fritzl imprisoned his daughter for 24 years and fathered seven children with her.

Three of the children "never saw sunlight" for years until they were freed this past weekend, they say.

Every time I see one of these stories (they are far to common) I wonder what other girls are currently trapped in a dungeon somewhere and when/if they will be rescued. How many are out there, how many will never be found.

I have no words to describe my horror and disgust at that "man". And I wonder if those affected by him will ever be able to lead a mentally healthy life.
