If the leg is bothering her and it seems like it is going to be chronic pain that will never be resolved, is amputation an option? Dogs tend to adapt very well to losing a leg, and it would seen preferable to constant pain, and certainly preferable to being put to sleep.

Check around with some various rescue groups to see if they have a low-cost vet resource who would be willing to do the surgery to fix her leg and keep her from being put down. There would probably still be costs, but I bet they can help out somehow.

HI!
|
What vet did you take her to? First of all, she needs the leg x-rayed to see how bad the damage is. It may be something that can be repaired with surgery. My vet had a wonderful orthopedic doctor that did Charles' surgery with great results. Secondly, if she has been living with a badly healed leg for this long, it doesn't seem like it is something that must be done pronto. Do a little more exploration first before you decide what to do.
Dogs do do well with amputation, so that is a last ditch option that is possible. |

It's good to know that dogs still poop okay with a missing leg.

Actually, she got her first exam at the Signal Hill Animal Hospital.
There is a possibility we can get some help from the shelter. They already told us that if she ever needed medication they would provide it to us for free! So, maybe they can help with the x-ray stuff too. She is not in constant pain. You can tell it is only if her leg moves a certain way. So it is not like she is miserable. I am just worried about her getting hurt more while playing or something. |

NGU, she is adorable!
Please keep us posted on her status, and definitely take advantage of any of the medical care as needed. She's way too adorably cute not to have a loving home with you! |

Ok, so we just broke up 2 pretty bad dog fights. I have never had 2 dogs at once so I don't know if this is normal or not?
Do we need to give it more time or is this a bad sign? |

Dogs (and others) have to establish a pecking order. They will figure it out in a bit. We got our first basset hound because she took on a great dane and the owner didn't want to deal with letting the dogs settle it. Hopefully you can keep them from actually hurting each other, but other than that, it's how dogs figure out who's the boss.
Best of luck. And she's adorable! Hopefully her leg can be fixed at reasonable cost.

Okay, every time I see this thread, with a typo in the subject, I just assume it was started by NA.
