Stupid doomsayers. Let's not forget this project is being designed and run by highly trained scientists who have staked their reputations and careers on this project. Of course we can trust them.

I remember reading somewhere that the Manhattan Project made more than a few people nervous, including Fermi. They weren't 100% sure that they could contain the reaction, and all sorts of hideous outcomes were projected. Still, the experiment went forth and the rest is history. (I realize the results of that test led to some pretty horrific weaponry, but the test itself was a success and followed the scientists predictions reasonably well.)

Dear Moonliner,

Although I'm not inclined to worry, if you have read the first few chapters of Bill Bryson's "A short history of nearly everything" you'd be a little more sceptical...scientists have clung to the most radical (and incorrect) theories for decades (sometimes centuries). This is often through ignorance, religious belief, or purely because one of "their own" didn't make the discovery first.

For example, and for these kinds of reasons, it wasn't accepted that the Earth was hit by a huge asteroid in Yucutan (that ended the Dinosaurs virtually overnight) until the 2000's ...after hundreds of years of negative speculation.

In other words, they have been known to be wrong almost as much as right. Even Einstein was proven wrong on plate tectonics (movement of earth's crust, above and below oceans).

Soooooooo...we had better stock up on French wine, Swiss cheese and a huge puncture repair kit in case things end up as "oops - missed it by that much".

Love and hugs,

The Stoat.

Dear S4DS,

Don't worry - just stock up on the goodies, and if things go wrong, I'm sure you'll be gently deposited at the gates of Disneyland, picnic basket in hand, just in time for a swank LashPair meet. And then you can come and live in Australia (some left-over bit) with Bear and me.

Please don't forget the gingham table cloth and a bottle opener.

Love and hugs,

The Stoat XXX.
