While I cannot readily find the documentation, I am pretty sure that it is illegal to remove election signs, etc. - even if you don't agree with it. I am sure there are exceptions (such as possibly if someone put it on your private property without your permission), but I believe that you removing the sign is not legal.

And I personally believe it is unethical. I know I wouldn't want somebody removing a No on 8 sign.
