Isn't the GO still closed? That would be a PERFECT choice.

Actually, they are going to show "Star Wars" on Tatooine, or at least they plan to ... and have already contacted a friend of mine who is the expert on Death Valley locations used for the 1977 film.

I've been to "Tatooine" and have visted all the filming sites in Death Valley. It's a geek delight unparalleled, and I would return there for a showing of Star Wars in a heartbeat.

Ugh, I really wanted to go to their showing of "Close Encounters" at Devil's Tower, Wyoming a couple years back. How do you win tickets to this Queen Mary/Poseidon Adventure screening??

(Oh, and when did Netflix buy the Rolling Roadshow??)

One of my great personal memories is making a reasonably large mashed potato model of Devil's Tower while camping in the shadow of Devil's Tower. I'm sure the park rangers have seen it billions of times but we had fun.

For those who have never been, there is also a field near the base that has the largest prarie dogs I've ever seen.

North by Northwest at Mount Rushmore would be a great one too.

Yes, that would make a great 'double-feature' as they are only a few hours drive from one another. (heheh, I hosted a double-feature screening of CE3K and NxNW before we left for Mt.Rushmore and Devil's Tower. I didn't do the mashed potato thing, but the prairie dog town was awesome!)

I think the Clerks screening could be a lot of fun.

I was trying to think about what could be done in my area.. best I could come up with is Great Expectations (the Ethan Hawke/Gwyneth Paltrow version) at the Ringling Mansion. I'd probably be into that.

I'd love to go to Lone Pine and see 'Gunga Din' or one of the countless cowboy films shot there on a big screen in the desert at night.

Dances with Wolves in the middle of the tallgrass prairie would be pretty cool.

Disney's One Little Indian (starring James Garner, Vera Miles, and Jodie Foster) was mostly filmed in a canyon outside of Kanab, Utah.

The canyon is now owned by a single entity and is home to the very large Best Friends Animal Society, a no kill shelter*. If you're in the area it is definitely worth a tour (at least one structure was still standing from filming when we were there a couple years ago). It would be a good spot for a fund-raising screening (other movies were filmed in that canyon as well).

*I'm of the opinion that euthanasia is appropriate for unclaimed strays and feral pet species in most situations but this is the best no-kill situation I've ever seen.
