Spirits-wise I like Gin & Vodka. A good gin and tonic is great. Martinis only with vodka though (and I hate olives, so a twist). I have been known to have the odd Appletini or Lemon Drop. Mojitos are great too. Back in my student days shots were my thing. Now I’m a <cough> a grown up, not so much

Fun thread

Generally my favorite drink is variety. I'm nearly allergic to repetition. If I've had it, I probably want something else.

That said, my favorites tend to be apple martinis (yes, I know it's not a real martini), Long Islands, Mai Tai, and nearly anything made with amaretto.

I don't do much drinking because 1- hubby has a fit; his dad is an alcoholic so anything to do with alcohol makes him nervous, and 2-I usually have to drive home. I still have fun hanging out with my friends, but sometimes I do miss the cocktails.

Beer? Microbrew is best. I home-brew, and will drink those. I like the line where someone said they didn't want to be able to see through their beer. Yeah.

Wine? I like wine (as long as it's not Chardonnay), but usually will go for hard stuff if I'm out someplace. On Hallowe'en I do take a bottle of wine on my front step and hang out for the night with my bucket o' candy and my tarot cards. So it's not that I dislike wine, I just think I like other things better in most of my moods.

Quite possibly, actually. I've been enjoying this "feauxmopolitan" I've put together due to lack of actual Cosmo ingredients (cran-grape juice instead of cranberry, splash of lemon juice instead of lemon infused vodka, dried orange zest + more vodka instead of cointreaux...otherwise, it's EXACTLY like a cosmo, lol).

This thread has made me dig up an old cocktail page I made where I came up with a rather delightful cocktail I'm eager to recreate sometime:

Quote:

Here's a drink of my own creation somewhat based upon the Singapore Sling. You can help me pick an appropriate name for this Eastern European version. Some ideas? The Sileasian Sling, the Blitzkrieg, the Eastern Front, the Anschluß, or the Weimar Wunderland. Anyway this is an atractive yet potent drink, as the ginger ale causes the gold leaf of the Goldwasser to effervesce. It's a cocktail that will definitely impress.

2 jiggers gin--preferably Steinhager

1 jigger kirschwaser--I prefer Detlinger or Schladerer

1 jigger goldwasser--this is a unique liquor from Danzig (aka Gdansk-oh those borders!) that contains 18 carret gold leaf in its distillate. An excellent apéritif on it's own, this is the only cocktail I would mix it with.

ginger ale--of course ginger beer is better, but so much harder to find

Over 1 lump of ice, pour the gin, kirschwasser, and goldwasser into a chilled 10oz glass, the more attractive the stemware the better-my personnal preferance is St. Louis Apollo Gold, but at $220 a stem I'll let you skimp here. Fill the rest of the glass with the ginger ale, and admire your gilded cocktail.
