As in the past, I'm wondering why the counting is so slow at this point. Even though the numbers are close in Virginia and Montana, shouldn't the numbers be in by now? Why is there a delay? I'm curious. If this were a movie, I picture lawyers surrounding a table making bids for who actually wins.

Mostly it's absentee ballots.

So, the other states are doing this as well but their ballots won't affect the predicted result? I think I get it.

Yup. It's only the close races that it matters. If a candidate is leading by 30,000 votes and there are only 8,000 votes left to count, it's a guarantee. If a candidate is leading by 10,000 votes and there are 11,000 left to count, it's a statistical liklihood. If a candidate is leading by 5,000 votes and there are 10,000 left to count...too close to call.

Most southern states have laws permitting the retroactive intimidation of black voters. They go to your house after election day with a torch and a noose and ask if you still would have voted if they had done this the day before. If you say no, your vote is stricken.
