Hmm, color me puzzled as to why everyone is saying "she's slipping" instead of actually being hurt and angry. I never knew what she felt about the gay community before - why should I feel this is due to her old age? Anytime any other celebrity would say such things you guys would tear into them. Why are you guys cutting her a break?

I know many people from her generation and little 'comments' like the singing and dancing thing are fairly common amongst them. They were sandwiched between the very prim and prejudiced Edwardian age and the anything-goes Boomers. They were largely brought up (and I know I'm generalizing here, so bear with me) under a certain set of rules and then later in life they did a lot of revising of those rules. I think Carol has lived her life for the most part as a fairly liberal and kind person, and I do think that she is probably beginning to slip a bit. From what I understand dementia is somewhat exponential- roughly 85% of 85 year olds will have it in some form and degree. I can only speak for myself- so far, she does get a pass with me but only just. I hope she doesn't keep on like this- it would be a sad blight on an otherwise remarkable career.
