I would apologize for tripple posting, but I get so little time on line, I'm not sorry.
So. I decided to see if I could get our ISP to expidite our new DSL service today. Chris has handled the transition up to this point and been more than willing to work with their limitations and timeline, however I run my business out of my home using the internet to recieve all orders and to get paid for the work I've done. It's been a HUGE impact on me. I decided to give them a poke to see if I could light a fire. I got the same info that Chris got even after I explained the situation to them. The conversation went something like this: So, no internet for a month? It will take 2-3 weeks. From the day it went down? No, from the day we put in the order. So, that was a week after we lost connection, therefore a month. Is there any sort of band aid we can put on the situation since I run my business out of my home using the internet? I can give you free dial-up. That's nice of you. Will you also be giving me the $40 device so that my MAC can actually access dialup? Ah, no. {after about 10 minutes of asking questions.....} Ok then, is there any way to expedite the order to get things in place sooner? Well, I can send a request to my supervisor. OK. How long will that take? A few days. A few days to send a request? Well, I'm typing it up now. OK. What's your supervisor's name? blahblahbla. And your name again is.......? blahblahblah. So, will you call me when you get a resolution on this? I can send you an email. !WHAT DIDN'T YOU UNDERSTAND ABOUT THE FACT I DON'T HAVE INTERNET ACESS AT MY OFFICE?! Ummm, no. You can call my cell, please. Lastly, if I were to cancel this lengthy upgrade process and find a providor that could actually get me connected sooner, when would be the last day I could do that without incurring charges? Well, you've agreed to a one year contract. Correct, but that becomes effective upon the service being provided and, according to you, the service won't be provided for another 2 weeks. (My lawyer boss who used to work for Earthlink got a good laugh at this bit.) I got the supervisor's name and will be following up tomorrow. What a bunch of dorks. |

Heh, that sounds pretty close to the stupidity we went through when we first signed up for DSL 9 years ago.
Me: "I agreed to a 1 year contract in April, but you didn't have my service up and running until June. I want my 1 year contract to end in April." Any one of 3 companies I was dealing with (phone company, company that maintained the DSL equpiment, company that actually provided the DSL service: "Not our problem, call [insert one of the other two companies here]." Tards.

30 minutes until my first exam of the semester starts. This one is open note. I have a giant binder. Not that I plan to really use it - I have half-a-dozen or so summary sheets - the binder is for backup in case my mind goes blank. And having it here guarantees that won't happen.
I hate the damn flip-flop feeling in my stomach beforehand. I could deal with everything else fine if I didn't feel like this.
