We're going to Bryce Canyon (2 nights) and the Grand Canyon (north rim, 2 nights) the first week of July. Then the spousal unit and I head home through Zion (but not staying the night there.) The rest of the family (my folks, brother and his wife, her parents) are going somewhere for a few nights after that (was Zion, then Capitol Reef, and now it's something else entirely that my sister-in-law's folks want to see) but I'm already missing a week of work and class, so that's more than enough for me.

Although I am not a lover of the desert, I thought Bryce, and the Grand Canyon were beautiful. Zion was nice, but not as stunning. Prepare to be hot.

And that would be part of why we're only driving through Zion, and not staying - or, heaven forbid, hiking there. Heck, I may not hike at all. By that point, all I may want to do is sit on the porch of the inn and knit.

Though I couldn't live in it, rugged desert (as opposed to flat) is my favorite of all environments to look at.

I have to agree about the hiking in those areas. I mean, isn't it freakin' hot??? I like hikes in shady areas, near water, and, early in the day.

I have toyed with a trip to the Grand Canyon but I don't know if the family would let me sit and enjoy or just take pictures. So, I don't offer it up. I wouldn't mind a little hike....

My brother is all about the hiking - but only in the southwest. We have loads of wooded hiking around here, but apparently he's only inspired by the blazing sun.

Oh man, find someone else to hike with! LOL

To me, the heat makes me tire more quickly, I need to carry more water to drink {then, were is the potty???} and I do burn. We are in 'training' to do the Mist Trail. I am goint to downtown and doing the 'stairs' with the Hubster {I don't know what the Boy will do, he hasn't came with us to train} in prep for their stairs. I will go early in the morning and expect to be done by noon. I also think the lighting on the rocks/cliffs in the deserts as such is beautiful.

		 Wow.

Just had a birthday party at my house for my wife and her twin sister. Steak, booze, cake, booze, cake in face, booze, ladies on the floor rolling around, more booze, shirts flying, pictures, noises from the bathroom, one lady passed out in my bed (not my wife). Did I mention I got pictures? And video. I don't dare post them, so don't ask..... ![]()
