I love my books, and I got rid of a sheetload before I left VA. I don't miss those, but I love all those I kept, those monetary value and those of purely sentimental value, all good reads, to me. I love me a good used books store, if it's the size of an airplane hangar, all the better.

eh, I read but its mostly code.
for infotainment...no, not really. Last non-technical thing I read (not counting magazines) wasn Sun Tzu's "The Art of War" and even that nearly qualifies as 'tech'

Ken's an absolute bookworm, often reading 2-3 books at one time, and finishing them within 1-2 days.
He loves fantasy/sci-fi stuff, and always kept them boxed away in shame (because of his parents' disapproval). So, when he moved in, and I populated the shelves with them, I saw him beaming. ![]() ![]() |

Probably six months ago I came to the realization that I should start thinning out my book collection. At first it felt like I was denying who I am. My books represent different parts of my life and for that reason I expected to keep all of them forever. When I finally realized that wasn't practical and I started looking at my collection more critically I realized many of the things that Alex listed, especially that most of what I have could be found again very easily.

I believe it. And believe me, if I had the talent for it, I'd be churning them out myself! Why not?
![]() The thing that made me happy was discovering that I still have the very first romance novel I ever read. Something I picked up on a supermarket shelf when I was 13 and my mom let me read. She said she used to have to hide them from her mom and she didn't want me to have to do that. To be honest, the sex scenes aren't the reason I read them. I like reading stories set in certain eras (like anything pre-1900, basically), and I'm a hopeless romantic at heart. But lately my thing has been potboiler suspense novels, like the much-maligned Dan Brown stuff or a great book I just finished that I picked up for $8 at Target the other day, called "A Great And Terrible Beauty". Has a little touch of the romance to it, but it's mostly a chick-oriented suspense novel. Luckily for me, it's part of a series, so now I get to go look for the next book ![]() Also been reading some of the Phillippa Gregory stuff, but MAN is her stuff depressing! All her books start off great and end horribly. Not much uplifting to finish it off. Great reads though. ![]()

I have a great weakness for the Amelia Peabody series by Elizabeth Peters. Sigh, to have seen Egypt back in those days, so much treasure, as yet undiscovered.

While I'm not a hopeless romantic necessarily, I used to read those for the same things- the historical setting. My mom used to think I read it for the sex (but it's sex between boys and girls... not really what I want to think about...) but it was really for the adventure around it. I'd skip the sex scenes- boring. Mom never believed me.
